Tragically Bored
The sad truth is that nobody really plays Calgary. That's an exaggeration but most bands skip over our little village with over a million inhabitants. It could be the long van drive over the Rockies from Vancouver or the 20 hour drive over the Canadian prairie, but something deters many great bands from visiting Calgary. Huge acts, such as Mariah Carey and Aerosmith play the Saddledome, but I would rather eat hot coals.Canadian acts always come by, I saw The New Pornographers recently, but their south of the border mates don't want to come up unless it's Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal. Tonight the Tragically Hip is playing. Again a fine Canadian band, but, honestly, I'm just not that into it. At least a dozen co-workers are going to see them, but I see that as a sign of how desperate they are for good live entertainment.David Lee Roth is playing a bar about 2 blocks from my job next week. I can't even find the humor in that.
