Oh...what a shame

I always liked 'I Will Survive'. I especially liked the line that goes 'I just walked in to find you there without that look upon your face' - it's kind of weird and psychedelic, but also makes sense. Only I've just found out that that's not the line at all, and that the actual line is much more rubbish. What a shame.

Congratulations on your continued independence!

Thanks for jazz, blues, rock 'n' roll, soul and hip-hop. Sorry about James Blunt. Keep up the good work.

Things bands don't seem to do any more...

...and it seems a shame:

1) Go on 'hiatus' while each member releases a solo album. And then find themselves ranked in order of popularity by chart position, with humiliating results for the bassist.

2) Travel around in vast trucks with the band name on the side.

3) Go disco.

4) Continue to make records despite hating each other.

5) Fire the singer.

6) 'Discover' a new instrument and use it on every song on the album.

7) Have unscrupulous management who get 7 different versions of the band playing different small towns in America.

8) Release back-to-back triple albums.

I love it

I really can't recommend this one highly enough. I went through a phase a few months ago where I would be hearing a record and all I could think was 'Why ain't I listening to Joe Death?. It's the best.

My Punk Name

My friend is in a band called Freedonia, and in the spirit of '77 has rechristened himself Eric Equality. So in that same spirit, what would your punk name be?

Death Of The Musical

Having occasional cause to totter along Drury Lane ('London's Theatreland') I am sad to announce the Death Of The Musical. I mean, I'm all for the hits of [Queen/ABBA/Motown/The Rat Pack/Madness/Boney M/Insert MOR Band Name Here] but I'm not convinced stringing them together with some flimsy plot and getting former teen idols and washed-up soap stars to trill them at bus-loads of glaze-eyed nostalgists can be considered art. What would Fred Astaire have thought of all this? Where's the style? Let's call the whole thing off.

Honk!

You don't see much jazz on MOG. So allow me to break ranks for a second and confess that I'm currently digging albums that are one long track (with a fade out in the middle for side two and making a cup of tea), mostly consisting of amazing tuneless honking. See also 'Ascension' by the great JC. Diddle-diddle-diddle-de dee! Honk! Honk! Phwee! Etc.

My Analogue Music Collection...

Three LPs I have on vinyl that I will never get around to digitizing:

1) The Dinner Ladies, 'These Knees Have Seen The World'
2) The Soup Dragons, 'Love God'
3) Men Without Hats, the one with Safety Dance on it.

Man alive, I've got some rubbish albums.

The Conway

Any Russ Conway fans out there? Roulette is amazing! This guy spent 87 weeks on the chart in 1959. His piano style is awesome.
