WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Soothed by Blue Roses

OK, time to Mog more. (I know, I always say that, but this time I mean it, blah, blah, blah.) So, I've mentioned that I stream music at work a lot, and it's how I discover lots of new stuff. My latest find on Spinner is Blue Roses, which is actually a woman named Laura Groves. She is very cute and British, and there is a lovely picture of a lighthouse on the cover of her self-titled debut CD. Hers is another calming British sound (affects me in the same way that Goldfrapp does) that transports and soothes while I'm working. Lots of piano and acoustic guitar, putting you in mind of rocky beaches and oceans. Folks say she sounds like Joanna Newsom; she has a similar sort of voice. Some might find it a little squeaky, but I love it. Here she is playing "I Am Leaving." The YouTube description says they're playing outside on the moors. I didn't think moors had lots of trees, but I guess I'm wrong, and she's from Yorkshire. I love the faces the keyboard player makes. Stick with it, it's a little warbly at first (been there) but then they get their footing.
