Take that Tony Hawk

Posted over 2 years ago
In what is being viewed as the first real attempt to challenge Tony Hawk's video game franchise, EA just upped the ante by releasing the soundtrack for their newest video game titled "Skate". While Tony Hawk games are known for their over the top action and tricks, Skate hopes to have a game that is more like real skate culture. The soundtrack does just that, and if its any indication of how the game is going to be, Mr. Hawk better do something to re- invent himself. Here is the track listing:Agent Orange-"No Such Thing"Airborne-"Let's Ride"Bad Brains-"I Against I"Band of Horses-"The Funeral"Beat Beat Beat-"Sinking Slow"Black Flag-"Six Pack"Booker T. & The MG's-"Green Onions"Challenger-"Input the Output"Cheap Trick-"Surrender"Children of Bodom-"Hate Crew Deathroll"David Bowie-"Queen B****"Dead Prez-"Hip Hop"Devo-"Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy"Eddie Rap Life-"Push Your Wood"Eric B. & Rakim-"Juice (Know the Ledge)"Escalera-"Go It Alone"Filthy Thieving Bastards-"Lords of the Avenues"Gang Starr-"Now You're Mine"H.I.T-"Drama"Mac Mall-"Perfect Poison"Motörhead-"We Are Motörhead"Nirvana-"Lounge Act"N.W.A-"Express Yourself"Renee Renee-"Stand Up Talk Easy"Rick James-"Give It to Me Baby"Rick Ross-"Hustlin'"River City Tanlines-"Black Knight"S.T.R.E.E.T.S-"Georgia St."Sicker Than Others-"Face Away"Sister Nancy-"Bam Bam"Slayer-"Raining Blood"The Briefs-"Poor and Weird"The Coup-"Ride the Fence"The Dwarves-"Massacre"The Exploding Hearts-"Your Shadow"The Falcon-"Blackout"The Mag Seven-"Dick Cemetery"The Ramones-"Psycho Therapy"The Returnables-"Teenage Imposters"The Sex Pistols-"Pretty Vacant"The Stars Misplaced-"Prophets and Kings"The White Stripes-"Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine"Trouble Andrew-"Chase Money"Valient Thorr-"Man Behind the Curtain"ZZ Top-"Just Got Paid"

  3. TroyPowers says Dead Prez-”Hip Hop” Rick James-”Give It to Me Baby” Sister Nancy-”Bam Bam” I like this game already. I've actually been hearing a bit about it. Supposedly, the controls are going to be representative of doing real skateboarding moves. Like, for an ollie you hit back and then forward real quickly and how well you perform it decides how much air you get. Sounds cool, but maybe a bit complicated for a guy who hasn't been on a skateboard since age 11. Hey, but at least I can bash my virtual face on the concrete to some great tunes! :)

  4. I am says While that track list is .... Jesus wait a minute ... Damn that's a fine whozit whatzits of freakin comp from God almighty Heaven ... Escalera-”Go It Alone” .... Where is the freakin' Plugz'? .. Wow! I'm sorry my head momentarily exploded. I am fine now. No need to worry. No really I am OK. Won't be playing the game. I have always been more water hog than dirt slipper. Seriously great sound track. Agent Orange.....Damn.

  5. Sterfish says I used to really enjoy playing the Tony Hawk games. In fact, I just bought a new PS2 and I pulled out Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and had some fun recently. The games have gotten a bit stale, though, so EA's new game could be interesting. The soundtrack sounds like it should be great.

  6. Hermes says Slayer <-> NWA <-> Nirvana <-> David Bowie: looks like a really wild mix. Do Skaters really listen to Metal? Grunge o.k., but Metal ... I'm slightly surprised ... but I don't know any skaters here so ... .

  7. iwanttofillyourmouthwithspiders says I was surprised when I started to notice that skaters are listening to rap now... I see your point about metal, but I would almost buy the game just for the Slayer and Motorhead (though Im not sure why they didnt pick Ace of Spades)... wait a second, can I play this on my 2600? No? Damn! I guess I really shouldnt be surprised as to what they put on a skating game these days, since I havent skated since around 1986. (Remember that scene in the first Back to the Future?!) Great soundtrack though, even if I never will play it.

  8. kat3260 says Tony Hawk 3 is one of the few PS2 games I've played more than an hour or so. I thought I was pretty good at it, until I saw the Rag3ah0lic's skills. That boy busts some sick virtual moves!

  17. Rawkkiddoh says man everything out of order...........I will pick you flood and say I am loving the look of the board. Mine is a Flip Rowley, get all kinds of looks from the kids when I show up at the skate park

  18. The Serenity Vortex says Wow, looks great! Do you skate Rawkkiddo? I'm not as agaile as I used to be but I still ride my long board when ever I can. It's easier to cruise and eat up the miles on a big long board, rather than the traditional skate boards those young punks ride lol!!

  19. Rawkkiddoh says I do still skate, although I find falling takes a bit more practice now than when I was younger. Love playing these games, takes me back to when I was a kid. A long board is on my list of things to get, love riding those

  20. mollifire says that looks dope. for reals. but Tony Hawk is living in style. i doubt he'll worry too much about his franchise. i don't know if he's living large, but he skates with his kids and still appears in skate vids now and then. how cool is that. i'm 32 and i still skate everyday. so i can really appreciate him still pulling tricks and shit at his age, whatever that is. great post rakkiddo! and as usual, i LOVE your avatar! did you hear the story about Boots Riley (Coup) being hassled by the police? he's from oakland, but he was in SF, an industrial neighborhood, a place that use to be all underground dance party warehouses in the 90's. he was going to a friend's place and was surrounded by cops before he even stepped out of the car! it was in the SF Guardian. if you didn't hear about it, i bet it's still online. they never even checked his ID, despite "thinking he was the tire thief they were looking for." Bitches!

  22. Heggs says Maybe the game will be crap but it does not matter because that soundtrack is pretty orgasmic.

  24. mktackabery says the soundtrack is rad, but is it me, or is it mostly old stuff? aren't there any new skater bois? what's up? i find it . . . well, only ironic, I won't say sad, and I won't say I feel old, but I guess everything comes full circle in one's life, as I'm apparently now hanging out with boys on skateboards again like I did when I was in high school and college. Figures all you guys skate.

  25. Rawkkiddoh says I am not sure why none of the newer punk bands made the cut, it would have been cool to see some of the more pop punk bands on there Michelle.

  26. mktackabery says It would have been. Tsk tsk. Corporate shills strike again!!! Well, I have to blame it on somebody.
