Thursdays are great days for me. Today looks like its going to be shaping up to be quite nice. Its already 80 degrees out, and its only 10 oclock, I feel a day spent at the park is in order. Thursdays also are library days for my son and I, this means new books for him, new music for me. Last week I scored big time and checked out the new El-P, Tindersticks, the Strokes and Minneapolis favorites the Olympic Hopefuls. I am not sure what I might find today, but I hope it is something I can add to my soccer mix for tonight. One artist that is already on the mix is Fatlip. As a member of The Pharcyde, he contributed to the critically acclaimed Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde as well as the follow-up release Labcabincalifornia. After the relase of the Labcabincalifornia album, Fatlip was kicked out of the group for leaving the supporting tour for their second album in favor of working on his own solo efforts. In 2005 he released his solo debut, The Loneliest Punk. It was also released with a single, What's Up Fatlip. The music video was directed by Spike Jonze and goes against everything you have come to expect of hip hop videos today. The song is a classic, and the video is one that you would not see many artists put out. No guns, bitches or bling........ just a sorry ass clown.
