WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Any one up for a game of Hot Potato?

Posted over 2 years ago
Last night I made a post talking about how it would be great if MOG Wars didn't end so quickly. That's when Crashpryor showed his true brilliance and suggested a game of hot potato. I thought it over, and came up with some ground rules for this inaugural mix cd game. If you are interested, mog mail me your name and address. The amount of people we get for this will greatly affect how long it will take for a finished product. Starting today, I will collect names for 2 weeks. At the end of the two weeks, I will make a list of everyone’s names and addresses and the game will begin. I will start by taking one blank cd, and putting one track on it. I will then mail the cd to who ever is next on the list, and they will get to add their song to the mix. This will go on until everyone who is on the potato list has gotten a chance to add their song to the mix. If there are a lot of people who sign up, then we may end up with a box set. The last person will send the final mix to me, and I will do a final track listing and cover art for all to have.As for a theme for the cd, I thought at least for the first one we should play off of the fact almost all days on mog have a musical theme attached.Monday - Acoustic?Tuesday - PunkWednesday - Thursday - Hip HopFriday - FunkSaturday -Sunday - CoversPick the theme you want the most, and include it with your mog mail to me. I will tally up everyones votes and tell you what the mix will be. I think that covers just about everything. Two weeks people, and the game of hot potato will begin.

  2. Zeroskilz says Hmmm.... I will have to think about this Rawk. My time is so limited right now. It's a great idea though. You are taking a lot on here.

  3. angeldawn says How 'bout if we fill out the rest of the week's themes and let each participating MOGger pick a day for the song they add. So we'd have MOG Daze!

  4. Rawkkiddoh says Darmuzz, note taken Zero, it wont be that bad, you just need to add one song to the mix Angel, I feel like some of the other days have themes, if you want to add one I will add it to the list

  8. Zeroskilz says Well, you are probably right. I'll think about it. In the meantime, how about a suggestion for Saturday. Live music? It's a great night to see bands. :)

  11. Taylspin says Its a fine idea, and worth fighting for (and fighting over). However, I'm still not clear on how a person adds ONE song to the CD and passes it along. Unless you have a CD that is re-writable. I like punk rock tuesdays and funky fridays best. If you wanted to add one, it would be 80s. Anything cheesy 80s. Or how 'bout some loooove making/sex music for Hump Day?

  12. Pseudo Cyborg says This is absolutely brilliant. @Taylspin - As long as you don't close the CD, tracks can be added without having to use a CD-RW.

  14. Dale says Oooh, a game I don't have to organize. I'm down. May I also humbly suggest Shoegaze Saturdays? :D

  15. chulsmith says i have three suggestions... 1. wait until mog wars is done to start this game. however, collecting names now isn't a big deal. just seems like there's a lot going on. maybe it's just me... 2. theme: i think the mog days is a good idea, but how about this. coop starts out the cd with a song. the next mogger needs to build off that song. for example, let's say the first song is: against me! - don't lose touch the next person would take his title to determine the next song which could be: guster - amsterdam - (chorus is: i'm gonna write you a letter...) the next person's song could be: jackson 5 - abc the next: megadeth - countdown to extinction etc, etc, etc. 2. instead of using the snail mail (which would cause huge delays), let's utilize the world wide interweb. there are tons of free hosting sites to which users can upload .zip or .rar files. it would work like this: - mogger receives a mogmail with the link to the .zip file - mogger downloads the zip file and unzips it. - mogger adds their song, re-zips it, and uploads it. - mogger sends the new link to the next mogger. and it would be better for the environment... (just had to throw that in there because...well...it would be...)

  16. Dompaczko says I like the idea of doing it electronically, plus then everyone will be able to have a copy of the finished collection. As for a theme, why have one? What ever takes your mood at the time?!?!?! anyway Rawkkiddo...count me in please

  19. davesonic says I'm in for sure. I'll send a MOG mail as well.
    Permalink posted 04/18/2007
  20. Joxley says I'm in, but may I throw in a curve ball here - I think you should only be allowed to know the track preceeding yours, and then the full thing is revealed to everyone on the last day. Just an idea...
    Permalink posted 04/18/2007
  21. Lizziegreeneyes says I am so in !!! And I really dig chulsmith & Joxley's suggestions - go by the title - make sure you only know the artist and title of the one before yours ... "a full reveal" ... is that Kosher since we're still in debate over sexytime on MOG ??? YAY !!! My first MOG Game

  22. gcincinnati says agreed.. there needs to be an electronic day too!! I'm signing up!
    Permalink posted 04/23/2007
  23. Ashleyness says I'm in, but I agree with chulsmith and jox. I think it would be easier to do it through the internet. Great Idea though!
    Permalink posted 04/23/2007
  24. CrashPryor says ...doing this through the Internet might be easier via IM, since CooP is the "Grand Hot Potato Potentate", maybe those interested should shoot let him know their handle or sth (you can create a mog one just for stuff like this if you're weary of getting your real deal out there)...you have mine already, Kevin..

  25. Ouoertheo says Sweet idea Rawkkiddo, if you plan on doing it by mail, you should let people add album art of their own and then put together a booklet. That would be pretty sweet.

  26. PassionPlay says I'm interested - but in the UK so Internet is the way to go for me. Can I suggest www.mediafire.com for the fileshare list, I have swapped a few albums with mates using this site and it couldn't be easier. Oh and MOG Wars??? [Goes off to look!]

  27. phils says I am so up for this. I am another UK mogger, and I vote for and indie wednesday myself, my kind of thing. and we do need some dancy electronic thing as well. x
    Permalink posted 04/23/2007
  28. nowreen says I agree, absolutely brilliant. I go for Indie Wednesday or Electronic day. Or something New Wave. I also think that online would be much better, it may get expensive sending a box set of CD-RWs around the world, and it'd be easier online too.

  29. DangerousDan says Count me in! I'll MOGmail you today. I agree that on-line would be easier & cheaper but how would you control for the order of tracks? An on-line file server would organize them in alpha order, unless we all agreed to put a sequential number at the beginning of the file name before we upload. I love the idea of letting the theme evolve naturally. It would become an organic mix. The next person to add a track would listen to the current tracks (in order) and pick an appropriate next song. This is why keeping track of the order of tracks would be become important. AWESOME idea!
    Permalink posted 04/24/2007
  30. DangerousDan says PS: I think the idea of only sharing the last song with the next contibutor is cool but it could result in duplicate tracks in the mix.
    Permalink posted 04/24/2007
  31. RockRoll43 says Hi Raw, Great Idea but not too keen on the idea of themes. Count me in and how do we find out on who to send it to next . RockRoll43 ( Also remind everybody to keep their copy sent to them in case something goes wrong on the copy they sent out- Also when people copy and add to the CD, I am worried about the bit rates they will use- I feel we will lose some of the quality while being pass on )
