OK moggers....explain yourselves

Posted over 2 years ago
I finally got caught up on my emails, and needless to say it was an all day event. Page after page I went through, and a question popped into my head. Why did you chose the mog name that you did? I have gotten to know quite a few of you by your "real" names over the past few months, but a lot of you have screen names that make me wonder why did you choose that? I will go first on this one and explain Rawkkiddo. The rawk comes from the song "Punk Rawk Show", sung by mxpx and its one I liked a lot a few years back. The kiddo comes from the fact I still get carded buying alcohol, and have been told I have a baby face. I was going to use my old graffiti tag of Pook, but I have been using rawkkiddo online for too long now. Things like this interest me, and I hope Justcheez finds this post to explain his mog name.

  3. Dale says Ask my parents, it's their fault. As many of you know, I had a different nick on MOG originally, but someone suggested that she had difficulty trusting me at first because of it. By that time, most of my Trusteds used my real name anyway, so it seemed silly to come up with another name. So, here I am. Ta-da!

  12. dangerpilot says here is the long story of the pilot in me: I have gone through aim screen names faster than a 12-year-old emo kid with too much eyeliner. approximately two years ago I was rather intoxicated and watching the movie Highway starring Jared Leto and Jake Gyllenhaal (both of whom, at that particular time, I loved). Jake's character in the movie is named 'Pilot'. at the same time I had just discovered the band Idiot Pilot, so it seemed like a theme. mostly, however, I was inot quirky brit pop and used the term "rubbish" constantly (like, way more than I do now). so I got a new screen name: rubbish pilot. by the time MOG came around, my biggest obsession was Jackass/Bam Margera & things of that ilk. their term of choice was 'haggard' (as opposed to 'rubbish'), so that's why my original MOG was 'haggardpilot'. then there was that fateful day in february when I admitted my dangerous obsession with drummers and etcvisitor suggested I am actually a danger pilot because of it. it just seemed to roll off my tongue better. I admit now that rubbish pilot is still the best of the three, but I won't bother changing it again. random fact: the best yet most underused screen name I ever created: omg grapes

  19. 1234chainsaw says Me and the Horse: I have just the song for you. It's an awesome instrumental by a band called Mofos called "And The Horse You Rode In On". You're unlikely to be able to find it, but if you're on Multiply, I can hook you up. Mine is easy. Lots of worthy bands begin their songs by counting out 1-2-3-4 and I've always like the song "Chainsaw" from the first Ramones record. The twain hook up naturally and voila there I am. Plus it's really just kind of appropriately silly to call yourself chainsaw when you're an urban scholarly type. Kev, you got my real first name right, on the other thread.

So far the only ones I seem to be fluent in are slang and typos. Years ago I became slightly obsessed with Finnish hockey players, Kurri, Selanne, Koivu, Numminen etc..., (btw Pekka you remind me of one, er..not one I was obsessed with but a player in the NHL), so I started to pick up a bit of Finnish. Mutteri = Nut, Mieli = Mind which would make nutmind, but I translate it as Nutcase. It's not a real word, I made it up but it pretty much describes me. I had a boss that called me Melissa, a co-worker that called me Kris, and someone on my bowling team used to call me Julie, but you can call me Jill.

Anyway, mine is kind of boring. "Groon" is a track on the King Crimson live album Earthbound. When I first got online about 10 years ago (back on AOL--shudder) I started to use it then, and pretty much everything online that I go to I am Groon, unless someone has used it before me (in which case I go by "Kobaian", a Magma reference, and in extreme cases I'll choose "Ubik1313" which is a reference to both my favorite author, Philip K. Dick, and the first Univers Zero record).

  49. goodmusiconly says My screen name probably doesn't require a lot of explanation... but when I stumbled onto mog I was so excited that I signed up immediately and didn't give it a lot of thought. It stems from a history of people asking me what music I listened to, and when I named bands or artists, people rarely knew who I was talking about. So then I would just say, "well, I like a lot of different kinds of music. I'm fanatical about it. The only prerequisite is that it's GOOD." :) I've thought about changing my screen name since then, but I'm not sure what the point would be. Most mogs know me by my real name now, Erin.

There are about six thousand Michelle Kidds in the universe, but not a whole lot of Tackaberys, so getting married helped, ha. However, I did use various screennames, but was never happy with any of them, I always changed them. I'm a fickle girl that way. When I decided to make my blog about PTSD, being open and honest about it was important to me. I needed people to see that people with mental disorders (not the one I have which makes me compelled to hang out with you muttermielis though) can lead successful lives and learn to heal, so it was necessary to use my real name. That was a big step, but once I did it, I decided to hell with it, this is who I am, love me, leave me, hate me, whatever, that's me. It also keeps me honest and reminds me not to post anything on the internet I'd be embarrassed about later, because I work on the net for a living and that would be my, well, behind.

  57. brand X says In a futile attempt to hide his shame after being released from prison for killing his first family, my father changed his last name from Vanderhoffen to X, an obvious choice since that's how he signed all his legal documents anyways. Brand is an old family name from my mom's side, dating back to the late seventeenth century when my great, great... grandfather was known to wear a large chartreuse 'F' on his torso. As a way of fully embracing his shame he named all of his children either Brand F. or Brandee F. Only the eldest boy actually went by the name Brand, the remaining twelve children went by their middle names. Ironically, Brand was the only of the thirteen to never be encumbered by a festively colored letter of his own. One would think that going through life with the name of Brand X would be a humbling ordeal, but the fact of the matter is that this crazy name gets me laid all the time. Even as a small child I could see my good fortunes on the horizon, like the finger of God hanging from the sky, just waiting for me to grow tall enough to accept His blessing.

So I corrected it to Noctisaura (which means literally "Wind of the night" and reflects what I was trying to convey a bit better). 65. fistula spume says Cool story etcvisitor. Brand X was awesome. That whole Anna/John thing made me pee a little. I got mine from the dictionary. I opened up a dictionary at random for guidance about 10 years ago and came across the words: fistula, spume, and cognitive. I thought this was a message to me. I'm a pretty happy go lucky guy but if you check out my sketch books and writing you can see how something this bizarre and slightly disgusting can come from such a quietly jovial person. I didn't use cognitive because I think that was the power word that underlies the name. I have been using Fistula Spume for a while. Most people don't know what it is and they are slightly ambivalent and find it humorous. The ones that do are either thoroughly disgusted or laugh in great waves. I tend to sneak up on people in that same way and can be very frank sometimes about things when know one knows what I'm talking about. I don't think I'll get rid of it. I've been using it for so long that people identify it with me. They'll just say, "oh, that Sam." My name by the by. I missed the other post but you already know my name. Ciao!
