MUSIC CHATTER AND MATTER

Wanna go for a run?

Posted over 2 years ago
I have read many a post on music to listen to while running or walking. What you listen to a lot of the times, I feel, effects your workout on so many levels. Seems like Nike and Apple might have found the solution to making your workout that much better. First you want to go and get yourself a pair of Nike+ shoes, these come with a special insole that you can fit a special sensor into. Next, you buy an ipod nano, because only the iPod nano syncs your complete workout data with both iTunes and nikeplus.com. Last thing you need to get is the The Sport Kit2 which allows your Nike+ shoe to talk to your iPod nano. The sensor uses a sensitive accelerometer to measure your activity, then wirelessly transfers this data to the receiver on your iPod nano.Hit the ground running with workout-based voice feedback, Nike Sport Music content, and an iPod nano that stays in tune with every step. I looked at some of the reviews for this product and almost all were great. With its great community features, the Nike + iPod Sport Kit adds an extra element to running and walking that can actually inspire and motivate you more than simply listening to music and timing yourself.

  3. mktackabery says my sister uses the Nike Sport content for workouts but I'm not sure about the shoes. She did tell me the workouts were really great.

  4. Dale says No thanks, I'll skip the run, I just did 45 minutes on the recumbent bike. That way, I park it by the PC and hit whatever Winamp's playing, and keep the keyboard close, so I may more easily skip the slow songs.

  5. Kate says You'd be even cooler if you wore these Nikes with the iPod jeans. Or you could just go for a run- it's free!

  11. 1234chainsaw says I cannot support Nike. Some crusty old punk rock and my crusty old sneakers will just have to do. But surely Kevin's post was in jest?

  12. Rawkkiddoh says Actually chainsaw I am an avid runner. I have 7 marathons under my belt, and while I am happy wearing my vans pretty much every second of the day, when running I need some cushion. I am not a big supporter of Nike, and prefer to wear New Balance shoes when I run. I did find this concept to be quite interesting though, and wondered how it worked.

  13. 1234chainsaw says I knew you were a runner (but I didn't know you were a runner of 7-marathon proportions - very impressive!). Of course you need cushion while running; for me, Asics work pretty well. I guess I thought you were jesting because the concept struck me, not perhaps silly, but another of those "for people who have everything else" things.

  14. Rawkkiddoh says Chainsaw, but another of those “for people who have everything else” things. That is exactly what went through my head, thats too weird. While I would love to wear Asics, I have flat wide feet. New Balance seems to be the best fit for me, as well as the ipod I run with. I used to carry the old walkman on all my runs, but I won an ipod mini, so it took its place. I would still have the walkman, loved making mixed tapes for my runs.

  15. Mike the Knife says I'm not much for running, but would this work for when I'm spinning my wheels?
    Permalink posted 03/09/2007
  16. Rawkkiddoh says According to the site, depending on what you are doing with your feet, the ipod responds. Might be a problem if you have clipless pedals.

  17. Mike the Knife says I meant the metaphorical "spinning my wheels," but OK.
