WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Meez what, meez nutz!

Tonight has been one of those nights. 35 below outside with nothing really on TV. While browsing through MOG, I noticed the whole Meez thing has kind of taken over. It lead me on a quest, to find an unknown band I had never heard of before with a cool animated video. The underlying goal here was to find a "new" band, and it would be the cd I bought with my first real paycheck in 9 months. I have had steady jobs ever since I was 16. Whenever a paycheck came, I always set aside a certain amount that I would spend on myself. When I started teaching, every two weeks that money would go towards new music. So for 10 years, every 2 weeks I would go to the record store and pick up new music. I have not bought any music since July, and I am starting to feel the effects. I have always wondered if I was alone in this sort of ritual. The actual planning out of when I would go to the record store, and knowing exactly what I wanted when I got there. As for tonight, I went out and found Peter, Bjorn and John. The music is catchy and poppy, just how I like it. If you have not heard of this band, may I suggest you check them out. I have liked everything I have heard so far.

  2. chucky says That doesn't sound bad, I'll have to check it out. Yesterday I bought a cd at Borders based on the name of the band and the cover art on a whim. I need to listen to it some more then I'm going to mog it.

  3. Rawkkiddoh says They are new to me Dale, and Young Folks did grab my attention. Chucky, I used to do that a lot, getting a cd based on the cover art. I have found some really good albums that way but its so hit or miss.

  5. Samantha Seldon says I really like "Young Folks." Peter, Bjorn, and John are quickly becoming the band to know. I first heard the song when I watched this crazy video of some of the members of We Are Scientists and Au Revoir Simone dance to it. Also, I just watched SNL and Drew Barrymore wore a Peter, Bjorn, and John shirt. So, I'm thinking everyone will mention them as quickly as possible so that in all of the clamor to site they "discovered" the band. Congrats on being quick on the take. I'll have to buy the album and listen to the rest of the songs. I need to do it soon too before MTVU plays it out.

  6. Peggah says Apparently!! Ted from the Shout Out Louds (another Swedish band that everyone should listen to) directed their video for Young Folks which won the Swedish Grammy for best video! :D I'm very excitable!

  8. Augusts1 says Kev, so funny that you post about this group. I just watched this very vid last night( or thurs. night, can't recall which) on YouTube while searching for the She Wants Revenge vid I posted & loved the song. For some reason the vid is strangely disturbing to me cause each character does one simple movement in each shot of the vid which is not humanly normal, lol(usually there's a range of motion going on when seeing a real human move). Plus the really inhuman smiles make me uneasy, kinda like watching Mormons or some other religious sect that try to maintain a faky happiness constantly. Call me a freak but I'd rather watch the She Wants Revenge S& M vid for "These Things"(at least it's more realistic) than this any day, lol. Don't get me wrong cause I love the song, it's great. The vid is just freaky deaky, hehe. I do try to buy some cds of groups that I haven't heard periodically but I'm not so methodical as you are Kev. Usually I will be more daring if it's a used cd that's really cheap. There's a great music store where I live that has a $1.00 close out cd bin & I can always find something to buy since my tastes are all over the map from mainstream to obscure. Back in my younger years, in the '80s I'd buy a new artist record i didn't know purely because of the cool cover art. my first New Order cd "Low-Life"(1985) was one of those. Here's a link to the cover art cause I can't seem to copy & paste it(I've been drinking wine, heh): http://www.amazon.com/Low-Life-New-Order/dp/B000002L7S/sr=8-7/qid=1170581545/ref=pd_bbs_sr_7/102-5589215-9762503?ie=UTF8&s=music The cd art doesn't do the record justice cause there is a translucent, parchment band wrapped around the album cover w/ NO's name printed in silver & black. Gorgeous, gorgeous simple design! And fell in love w/the music when I listened to it. Have done that w/other artists as well, like Cocteau Twins "Blue Bell Knoll".

  9. Zeroskilz says I've been waiting a long time for this album to release here in the US. Tuesday is going to be a great day. And I really like the Young Folks vid too. PB&J are just further proof that we all need to start drinking water bottled in Sweden, 'cause something up there is making them pump out great tunes. Congrats on getting a paycheck again.

  10. Rawkkiddoh says Nixne, so sorry to see you have fallen to the Meez peer pressure. Samantha, that kind of how people found out about the Sounds. I think it was SNL, and Dave grohl wore a sounds shirt when they played. Over the next few months, I remember them getting really big. I missed SNL last night, I have not watched it for quite some time. Wondering, how was it? Peggah, love the Shout Out Louds. They played a small venue in MN a while back, one of the best shows I have seen in a while. Jenipop, thanks for the link, I see myself spending some time there. August, I dont think there is a New Order album cover I dont like. When I was teaching, I had a bunch of the albums in record frames in my classroom. Low Life was one of my favorites. Zero, good music and beautiful women. (and men, not afraid to say it!) I will be drinking more Swedish water, but I dont think its going to help me musically or physically for that matter.

  11. SamTheButcher says You know, I almost wasted a good hour trying to fiddle with that Meez site last night. I say "almost" because my alternative was watching "Christmas with the Kranks", so it was kind of a toss-up wasting time watching a shit movie or wasting time playing with a cartoony beta site. But your "Meez nutz" comment cracked me up. :)
