YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

I want you to want me

Posted over 2 years ago
So with my last post I seem to have struck a nerve with my fellow mogsters. Can a music collection make or break a relationship. Now I ask, lets say you are a few dates into this new found love, and you want that special person to really get to know who you are. What do you do, well of course you make them a mix tape. Ok, I just dated myself by saying tape, so I will say mix cd. Seeing most mix cd's hold about 20 songs, what is the perfect list of songs that you would put on a cd for that special someone? I know that it would be different, depending on who you dated, but if you found the perfect match, what would you put on it. My top 20 would most likely go as follows......1. New Order - Your Silent Face2. Billy Bragg - The Only One3. Lightning Seeds - Pure4. Nikola Sarcevic - Lovetrap5. Matt Skiba - The City That Day6. Honeydogs - Those Things Are Hers7. Teenage Fanclub - Your Love Is The Place Where I Come From8. Yo La Tengo - My Little Corner Of the World9. Papas Fritas - Live By The Water10. Matt Costa - Cold December11. Oasis - Married With Children12. Looper - Impossible Things #213. Brand New - The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot14. Belle and Sebastian - Like Dylan In The Movies15. Blur - Youre So Great16. The Shins - New Slang17. Postal Service - Nothing Better18. Shout Out Louds - Very Loud19. The Crush - It Fell On Nines20. Old 97's - QuestionThat would be my list, great for snuggling to boot.

  2. Terry Staunton says Whatever your thoughts, positive or otherwise, might be on Rolling Stone magazine, their writer Rob Sheffield is a smart and funny man who more often than not speaks the truth. Rob has a book out soon called Love Is A Mix Tape, chronicling the romancing of his wife through mutually obsessive list-making and music-compiling. It's a heartbreaking soundtrack to an all-embracing love affair, ever more affecting since Rob's wife died suddenly in 1997. It's a tragic yet comic, utterly honest story of the joy two people can share, both with each other and through the records that punctuate their time together. From a personal point of view, I'm currently in the process of trying to duplicate Rob's music choices, (a) because they are so on the money, and (b) to pay tribute to the fact that what some might consider disposable pop nevertheless has the abilitity to tattoo our hearts and heads for the rest of our lives. Please, please read it. You will find something in the pages that can't help but touch you directly.
