Does any one care any more....?

Posted over 3 years ago
So I was cruising through the web, and came across some news regarding Axl Rose and the "new" Guns N Roses. My question is does anyone really care any more about Axl, or has he worn out his welcome. To me, some artists just wear out their welcome and should just go away. Axl is complaining that he feels newer artists are getting more publicity than his band currently is. I am not sure what he expects with his on stage antics, and mediocre performances. I will be the first to admit that I loved Appetite For Destruction, a album I will throw on once and a while to bring me back to my younger years. Personally I want to keep it at that. If Chinese Democracy comes out I am sure it will never find its way into my collection. There are too many newer bands with a raw sound the old Guns N Roses had, that I would much rather listen to.

  2. chucky says I don't care. I've decided to pretend Axl Rose has no part of the GnR that put out Appetite for Destruction in the same way that I pretend Michael Jackson had nothing to do with Thriller or any Jackson Five songs.

  6. dnord says They're going to be at the Target Center Saturday. I'm actually going. The show is excellent. (They were at the Target Center in 2002, when the new album was "right around the corner", and for all the criticism of Axl's procrastination, reviews of these first few shows have been pretty positive.) It's about 65% Appetite, with the real big Illusion hits and I guess 5-6 new songs. Axl's new people are, of course, nothing like the players they replace: they're mercenaries, but they're all phenomenally talented. They play the old songs with a ton of energy - it's a job, but they seem like they like it. The new stuff is really good (what of it has leaked to the internet, anyway). I can't wait for some of these songs to get in front of a wider audience: I really think they'll connect with some people who wouldn't otherwise think of themselves as "Guns N' Roses people". Of course, none of that will matter if he never puts the thing out, but I guess I'm one of the people who still holds out hope. And Axl is certifiably insane. I guess you have to look at the things he says to the press as a real-life Spinal Tap sketch, and I'm sure it's only intentional some of the time. Let me go see if I can find this quote you're mentioning... nope, can't find it. But it's completely expected that he's going to say completely off-base things, that are so absurd on their face... it's just, that's what he does. So yeah, I still care. The guy has until about 2010 to deliver an album (any album - he doesn't have to call it anything special or include any specific songs on it), and then I'll just start thinking it's sad and ridiculous. Which it is, now, a little, but if they come through town again in four years, I'll probably still go see the show.

  7. ennuikiller says In my mind Axl Rose never really was very much of anything, but hey that's me,; Slash & Izzy Stradlin were the main attraction for me, so GnR for all intent & purposes is dead & gone, and Axl should spend his time cruising the craigslist personals for someone to make him live up to his name, because there aren't going to be many free ride left for him.....then have to make a new name out of "hard up"

  8. ericoseveins says you know, you talk like he used to be normal or something... other good memories: when he was 'on the lam' from the law while simultaneously on tour.

  10. Nixne Svix says Axl. He is a Rock Opera in 3 Parts. I-The Golden Years (the salad years) -Youth and vigor and teh two best Guitarists an Album of te late 80's. II-The Peak(overdose of ego)-Double Albums? Epic Videos? Kick ot Stradlin? The music is there but the magic has been replaced by a catchers vest and Personalized hi-top sneakers. III-Oh,where art thou Axl?-The wait. The Line up changes. The excess. The fights with designer imposters. The plugged dreadlocks. we come to expect the unexpected but he has taken a side-show turn for the worse. I will buy the album , because my musical identity always comes back to Appetite for Destruction -when i was a kid. So it goes. But i turned down free backstage passes for an evening with freinds this last halloween , so i guess ive changed too. I cant change my fucking name on this MOG though and I wish i could. 11. phoenixrock88 says yea GNR has seen better days, but the new lineup can play some fuckin rock and that's the point of music... i agree axl's got an ego and a half, but he can still sing really well and the new band has some great chemistry as for chinese democracy, it might never come out but the songs they've performed live: TWAT, chinese democracy, and better are great. the band has its flaws i will admit but i'm waiting patiently for the album. check out some of the leaks on http://www.newgnr.com youtube has some low-sound-quality stuff but you can see axl's still got a voice and the band rocks give them a chance, they're not fucking nickelback

  12. Nixne Svix says did you read what i wrote phoenix88? i said i would buy the album. but you wouldnt feel so chipper if you had expended the emotional , physical and monetary equivalent that I and other Gn'R fans of the day have. dude I have a editorial comment supporting Axl's craziness in a 1993 copy of TIME magazine , so dont tell me about 'patience'. (although it is good to see the youth supporting the classics) im not replying to the last line of your post.

  13. rweyh04 says Never thought Axl was good, his voice killed it for me since the first time I heard Guns & Roses. Because of that I could never understand how they were popular to begin with.

  14. Rawkkiddoh says Hey Axl I agree with you in regards to the emotional impact Guns and Roses has on me. It may be one of the reasons I am almost afraid to hear the new album. I will say this, after Axl had been in hiding for years, and he came on the MTV awards to do a performance, it made me happy. The Destruction album has a way of bringing me back to my youth in ways a lot of albums can't. High school was not the best years of my life by any standard, but there are many fond memories of that album in particular. Part of me hopes the new album is great, but I dont want to see this album come out, and have people remember Axl the same way people are going to remember Mike Tyson.

  15. Nixne Svix says thanks. axl rose has been a constant "something" in my life. (hence the name) i tend to laugh at him more and he is a runnig joke between me and well the world ....but he is just that kind of asshole who could pull an amazing album out of butt at any given moment. i still wish i had met him in 88'.
