I guess you could say I have been inspired by good old David Hyman. Saw two posts of his this weekend and it made me crave for some good hip hop. When I say good, I mean the old school variety and as a result I have been playing a lot of my older hip hop albums this weekend. I find it amazing how great a lot of them still sound, and it makes me wish more records like them were being made. My top 5 for the weekend are as follows.
5. EPMD - Strictly Business
4. De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
3. Lords of the Underground - Here Come the Lords
2. Newcleus - The Next Generation
1. Boogie Monsters - Riders on the Storm
Now with that out of the way I feel the need to post a video. It comes from the group Felt. Felt is a musical collaboration whose long-term goal is of having sex with b-level Hollywood actresses. This record is not for the love of Hip Hop. The album is not to prove whose city has a better-implemented smoking ban. It's solely a vehicle for rappers to have celebrity sex. Dont ask me, that comes from the Rhymesayers web site. Now the song in question is not a cover, but it does cover some of the more memorable quotes from hip hop songs of the past. Enjoy!

you know me... my hip hop collection is kinda lacking so this post was a treat - I am definitely feeling your #4 ;) Always been a fan of de la !!!
have to agree, that was the soundtrack to my 9th grade of high school
cool rawk
de la soul - now they bring back memories
cheers x
I remember this video, I'm pretty sure you posted it in someone else's hip hop post back in your daddydaycare days, hehe. It's a cool vid & song, I'm still diggin' it. And yea, I miss those old skool days of hip hop's golden era!
De La is definitely up there. I didn't realize EPMD always put "Business" in their album titles. Silly me. Mind you, I have never really emersed myself deep into old school hip hop culture but early 90's Tribe is always a back-to-basics hip hop act to relive. Them and Eric B & Rakim is a must listen at least once a season.
As far as current acts trying to do what these guys did so well, it's hard to find anyone who will compare to 20/25 years ago but J5 did it well early early on. Ugly Duckling was always a very light hearted lyrical beats and rhymes type of hip hop act that came and wen about 8 years or so ago.
although i love this anyway because Murs and Slug hit the spot, i support anything that big ups the beasties. kevin, were you ever a big beastie fan at all?
Old school rap is the best, the only rap in my collection is the 12" vinyl of colors from Ice T. Don't know if "I am the man" by Anthrax counts...
"Felt is a musical collaboration whose long-term goal is of having sex with b-level Hollywood actresses."
Ah,ha,ha, classic!
Brand New - I think everyone has a soft spot for De La
August - I am sure I have posted this video a million times, always trying to get more people to listen!
Eric - Great call on J5 and Ugly Duckling. Love both bands and listen to them almost daily!
Brittany - Still love the Beatie Boys. One of my all time fav. concerts was them with a tribe called quest. Hoping to see something from them soon.
RGM - I know, that line cracked me up something fierce
Still flying under the radar, I see. That's weird, considering I happened upon the profile of someone today who join Oct. 16, 2006...and hasn't posted since Oct. 24, 2006 that was "toasty." Maybe Mog is holding a grudge still 'cuz you dumped her once before.
"Felt is a musical collaboration whose long-term goal is of having sex with b-level Hollywood actresses." Isn't it the goal of any musical outfit?
Haha "the breath so stale it could've killed me" lol
sweet moosic yo ;)
Troy - I guess you could say I am like a stealth bomber..........not sure why the snub from MOG, maybe I am their dirty little secret
Bartleby - I know what you mean, in fact it is why I became a teacher in the first place.
Queen - Thanks, the video and song make me laugh as well!
