WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

As if I really had that much free time on my hands

Posted about 1 year ago

I am a video game junkie. I have been one for quite some time and still remember going to buy Maze Craze for the Atari 2600 with my allowance money back in 1978. Through the years gaming systems have come out, and each time I made the trip to the store in order to get my new fix. Something about losing yourself in your own little world has always appealed to me, and when Guitar Hero came out for the Playstation 2, my rock dreams were brought to life. I know that I will never front a band, but that game let me feel what it was like to play lead guitar for some of my favorite songs.

Here it is 2008 and I have recently stepped up and purchased a Playstation 3. I have been more than happy with my purchase, and in turn I have been patiently waiting for two games to come out. Those two games are Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour. Both games will feature a full band, and both games look to let the player live out their rock and roll fantasies to the fullest. My deciding factor will be which set list do I like more, and over the past few weeks I have seen partial lists being released for each game. Well today the full set list for Rock Band 2 was released and it looks like they have an early lead in my books. I feel Guitar Hero is going to have to put something special in their game in order to make me buy it over Rock Band. I mean come on, who would not want to play lead guitar for the Replacements just once.

Boy, what a cottage industry these rock games are turning into. Looks like they have some great songs lined up too.

Wow, quite a list. That's crazy that Lush are going to show up on Rock Band 2. That would totally tip the scales for me, not to mention possibly driving me to buy a PS3.

Wow, just for "Ace of Spades" alone, that would rock.  I wonder if you could virtually spit on the audience after telling them to fuck off.  That would be so kick ass.

I have had an idea for a game for a long time called "Security".  It would be a great guitar hero spin off.  The object of the game was a sort of old school, "Kung Fu" level style game in which you start out in the world as a security guard. You start as a bouncer at smelly punk clubs, move up to larger and larger venues.  You get rewards, points and money buy beating up unruly patron's, taking their drugs, and using their own "weapons" against themselves.  You eventually work up to a stadium.  Maybe you have to fight an actual rock star.  You win when you become a private body guard for a celebrity.  Maybe you even write a tell all after it's all over (but that would be in the epilogue).

    Livin' On A Prayer!?  Yesssss!

I only played Guitar Hero for the first time the other week, and whilst it wasn't as difficult as I thought, I'm still crap at it.  Takes a lot of concentration!  It is quite funny hearing other people playing and hitting bum notes.

So for Rock Band do you have to play with a full band?  Or can you play just with guitar?  These games always seem like fun but I never know if I'd play it that much.

You can do both.  Just a guitar, or just drums (my favorite) or just singing, or just bass.  Or two people, three people . . . up to four.

That is a serious looking track list.  I love rock band but have decided for now not to buy it.  I have a Wii, and they took out a lot of the features for the Wii release.  The songs are all there, but the character customization and World Tour mode are gone.  I'm hoping they change that for the new game when it gets released.

Your post, as well as your criterion ("My deciding factor will be which set list do I like more") for picking a game, bring two different types of geekinesses together. And it just so happens that I suffer from both of them myself!

    Geek on!
