So I was going to go to a show......

Today I was going to head out to my first live show in months. It may have even been a year, I am not really sure. I guess the reason for my departure from live shows has been a direct result of having a young boy at home. A lot of things have been put on the shelf as of late, and heading out to see live music seems to have really taken a hit. Tonight Alkaline Trio was playing a free show, a free show with the Enjoi skate team in tow. I was more than excited about seeing this, and had made plans well ahead to have a baby sitter ready so I could attend.
Then today I get a call from the captain of my soccer team asking me to make sure to be at the game so we dont have to forfeit. I weighed my options and ended up passing up on going to the show. Part of the reasoning for this was the amount of actual time Alkaline Trio was supposed to play. At first it was going to be for an hour and a half, and as of today it was reduced down to a mere 30 minutes.
I also took into consideration that they would be playing at a mall, and I didn't feel like showing up by myself to rub elbows with a bunch of teenagers. I almost feel as if this makes me older than I actually am, but I made my decision and headed to my game promptly at 7pm.
The temperatures hovered around 90, which made it a sweat fest for the majority of the game. Two 45 minute halves of running took its toll on me tonight, and I am sure my body will be screaming "Why didn't you go to the show?" at me tomorrow morning. I ended up scoring two goals, and added two more assists in a 6-5 victory.
I guess I am happy with how things turned out, now I just have to hope the Alkaline Trio makes a stop in Minneapolis in the near future.

You need to be more selfish Kev. Man up! heh
I know, but at least I had not accidentally bought the tickets before hand so I did not feel as bad about it
Haha, ouch!
At least you get to grab a little glory in the mean time. Who do you like Germany or Spain?
gotta go with Germany..........they seem like they are on the right track
Touche, ole, ah shantay!
for me, the venue environment has a huge impact on whether i can enjoy a concert or not. don't think i would get much out of a mall concert these days. you probably didn't miss much.
Careful, this is a real good way to annoy the concert deities.
Football n no music? ouch! You should have had serious reasons to do this, indeed.
At least it wasn't pro football..
A free show at a mall would probably have been a short set (and perhaps acoustic at that - unless it was at MOA, then electric is a def).
How did you know the show went from being a 90 minute gigs to 30 minutes? Band's website?
They'll definitely tour the US soon - new album coming soon (or it's out, not sure which one)
I'm with uncle A. Selfishness is a virtue, regardless of what people say ;) pamper yourself the next time :)
I think I would have if the concert had not been in a mall, but I will think of the two of you next time around
Prudence. Well there will be other shows. I think Spain is going to pull it off BTW.
after watching their game last night I might have to agree......impressive
Yeas, I will be drinking cerveza on Sunday rooting them on. I like the "flair" teams.
I'm with you, Oatmeal. Germany generally finds a way to lose. And Spain just crushed a very good team in the Russians....
I was really impressed with how they controled the game, all aspects of it. I was going to go to bed after my long game yesterday, ended up watching the entire match
