WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Rock Band : Pearl Jam

Posted 7 months ago

Kind of good news to find while on my lunch break today. I guess the makers of Rock Band decided to take a page out of Guitar Hero's book and ask a band to come make a game with them. They chose Pearl Jam, Pearl Jam did more than just say yes.

According to a representative from Harmonix:

"Rock Band and Rhapsody are kicking off a new initiative. Beginning today, the expertise of Pearl Jam's "Ten Club" members will be tested as they begin sifting through hundreds of live tracks performed by the band. Ten Club members will spend the next four weeks narrowing the pool of songs to a selection of the top 40 live tracks.

"In early June the project opens up to all Pearl Jam and Rock Band fans through the Rhapsody music service. Fans will have the opportunity to create their ultimate live Pearl Jam set list, culminating with the first-ever fan voted set list for a forthcoming Rock Band project.

"More details will be made available in the coming weeks about how to participate through Rhapsody, voting rules, contest prizing, etc."

I just wish I liked Pearl Jam enough to get excited about this, great idea but I hung up my plaid shirts quite a while ago.

I'm always glad to hear when companies get it right when appealing to a bands fans.  This is the future of music and entertainment, so do it right.

I picked up Pearl Jam's self titled album at the library a year ago, and I have to say it's really good.  I hadn't listened to them since Vitalogy, but was surprised how much their music had grown.

Yeah, I don't know much about Pearl Jam, but I love Rock Band, and I think this is a great idea.  If only it were Foo Fighters.

Have you played any of these games yet?

Have to agree with you both, an awesome way of picking out the track listing. Troy, I am a rock band/guitar hero junkie. I have played them all, and more than likely will be getting this when it comes out. I will most likely wait until the price drops like it did for GH aerosmith, ended up getting that for around 10 bucks. I am looking forward to dj hero, the song list for that looks rather dope

Have you heard there's going to be a Lego Rock Band some time this year?  It's aimed at the kiddies, so has an easier difficulty setting.  My daughter and I are gonna play this one day and night.  She can almost get the hang of the normal Rock Band, but she's not quite there.

But, yeah, awesome game.  Great after a night out with a few friends, and everybody still has a bit of energy, but nowhere to go.

The verdict is still out on DJ Hero.  The mock-ups of the dj controller that I've seen have been pretty corny.  There's supposed to be a similar game coming out called Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, and the controller supposedly can be used as a real dj controller on your computer.  So, I'd expect that one to be a little better than the plastic turntable with 3 huge buttons.

I will never hang up my flannel, in a spiritual sense, anyway.  Though the days of grunge and roses (HA!)  are long since gone.  Vitalogy is an excellent album, and Immortality is in my top ten PJ tracks all time.  Word to this.
