It is rainy here in Minnesota, and being that it is Sunday it seems like fitting weather. Outside was not an option today so a family trip to the library was on the agenda. I know I have said it a million times before, but I love going to the library to get a new crop of music to add to my music collection on my home computer. I was a little disappointed today at the selections my library had to offer, but then I saw one cd that put a smile on my face. That cd was Otis Redding Sings Soul, and I have been listening to it for a majority of my afternoon. I really can not think of a better soundtrack to a rainy Sunday afternoon, so here is my addition to SUTC, and that is my lesson plan book that I am presently working on as I mog! Enjoy moggers!

hadn't thought about the library. It the warmest day in 6 months here but would you know it my Spring Fever is capped by work today.. ugh! Hope you have a good nap today!
Cheers,
Indy
THE MAN..sounds like a comfy day. I had a softball gane at 9AM, then my first time 'round the yard with the mower. mmm,cut grass.
Indiana and Cody, I got a smell of that warm weather towards the end of the week but it went away today. Feels like fall, but I know the warmer weather is knocking on my doorstep. I can not wait for my first afternoon with the smell of cut grass in the air, really I cant!
Otis Redding never disappoints. In Maine, there is a website where you can search all of Maine's database of CDs and have any available album sent to your local library. Of the top of my head, I've borrowed the Beck album, Into The Wild and Once sndtrck, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Bob Dylan and Roxy Music.
Mind you, the 'walk in' selection in Brunswick is no good. Maybe a Stan Getz record here or there but nothing much else to shake a stick at...
At the library I go to it is hit or miss. I have found some really great things, but also have left empty handed as well. I could request albums, but I like going there and digging through the stacks trying to find a buried treasure.......today I found just that
I do the same thing when my son plays soccer, the Highland Library is in the same building. Last week I found the 3 CD box set of the ike and tina turner story.
nice, that is a huge score!
I would say "I always get a lift from Otis", but it appears that that company doesn't make elevators in the USA, so the joke might not work woprldwide
Not true B, Otis was, I believe, the first elevator company installing here in NYC (which was well over 100 years ago) and they're still running their old school elevators in The Plaza hotel at Central Park, for sure.
I stand corrected. Their website only refers to operations in Canada and the Caribbean islands (unless I'm misreading it)
how fun is that lesson plan? i carry at least one notebook, often more, constantly to doodle and scribble on as i've done since maybe grade school. (and i'm still crazy about stickers. ;D) righteous tunage, for sure.
i am now incredibly interested to know what all of my teachers lessons plans look like.
Baudolino - I am pretty sure I have seen the Otis tag on at least one elevator, for some reason I got the joke and thought it was funny.
Dachmo - I am going to have to agree with you, like I said I am pretty sure I have seen the logo at some point in my life
Poe - It is something that lets me keep working on my artwork, nothing like an excuse to doodle right?
Jules - I am going to guess I am one of the only teachers with plans like this. I have been teaching 12 years, and have yet to run across anyone who enjoys making them look the way I like to make mine look. I do them that way so the kids come in monday wanting to see what they are going to be learning. That and I love to draw, I say it is a win win situation!
Rawk: I am total fan of the library...sunny or rainy day...the librarians know my name! (plus my library let's me bring my dog in--which is always a plus.) Thanks for The Otis fix!
no problems! glad I could kill two birds with one stone
but the real question is...HOW MANY DAYS TILL SCHOOL IS OUT???
to tell you the truth I am not one to count down the days. I think it is something around the lines of 35 days, but I am really not sure. What I do know is that at the end of May I finally get to get my hair cut, this would be my first hair cut in a year. Each year I stop getting my hair cut during the school year, and then the two students who have read the most get to take clippers to it and cut it how they want to. Last year I ended up with a green and pink mohawk, this year I know my kids will come up with something even better. Rumor is that they are going to cut the top bald, and leave the rest thus making me look like a man who has gone bald. Either way I will be happy to finally not have to blow dry my hairdo!
well, that's inredibly brave of you! and much cooler too, in the heat! and I don't have to count the days...I just start taking note of my 5th grader's behavior. The closer we get to the end of the school year...the harder it gets to keep them focused on their work and not on each other!
If I remember right, if you hold the door close button and your desired floor button at the same time on an Otis elevator you will go directly to your floor without stopping. As always your lesson plans are amazing. You should have a lesson plan show.
ongoingly - that would be true for grades 3-12
fistula - if I could do a show like that I would hang up my teaching hat in a second. Imagine getting paid to do artwork, plus think of all the groupies a 4th grade teacher with art skills might get.................you are right, that would be none!
You gota work art into your life somehow or you'll go crazy. I haven't touched a picture in months now and I'm going bonkers. Waiting for spring to get here. Have you read "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing"?
so many times, Judy Blume was one of my favorites growing up. As for the art fix, I have to agree with you and I could not imagine not doing my lesson plan book the way I do
your lesson plans are amazing! fist - thanks for the tip. gonna try that out!
It looks like the lessons plan of someone who likes to keep on rockin' as a teacher, and that helps the students want to keep on rockin' as students. I really like this Otis Redding track, one of numerous brilliant cover versions on that CD. Does the CD's cover still show him as a blonde white woman?
Teaching with style- there's no better way to capture kid's attention. Sounds like you have some great style for any teacher to emulate.
Also, Otis makes elevators out here in Cali too.
Love Otis Redding. I believe his monterey concert was my first exposure to him. The man could really sell an emotion.
By the way, what age do you teach?
Charley - thanks for the compliment, I do love doing them!
Spike - Funny you should mention the cover art, the cd I got is of him singing at a mic. When I loaded it on itunes I got the cover you are talking about.........weird
Music - I do what I can to keep up the cool factor with my kids. As for the age, I am currently teaching 4th grade. I taught 6th grade for 10 years, then made the switch to 4th this last year.
