Came across this article at NYdailynews.com. Hard to believe its been 25 years since Tracey Thorn, front woman for the band Everything But the Girl, has done anything solo.
Melancholy has no better friend than Tracey Thorn. For years, the singer for Everything But the Girl honed the sound of heartbreak through the dark hues of her downcast voice.

that was a good read. I have a copy of her first solo LP _A Distant Shore_, it's freakin great. Just her and and her acoustic guitar and lots of layered harmonies. What I guess you would call a desert island disc for sure.

one of my favorite groups, despite the Pollyannish tendencies actually. Their early stuff tended to the sickly-sweet, but I found myself getting sucked in anyway because of Tracey's voice. When they started going in the "electronica" direction I was pretty much hooked.
I love how she said there was no way to make "Wheels on the Bus" sound good. LOL. Personally I'm thrilled she's got a solo record, it's now on my must-by list. She's definitely an "old friend."My Trusted MOGs
