WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

New Jack's Mannequin single

Posted about 1 year ago

The long awaited and delayed follow up to 2005's "Everything In Transit" is finally on the near horizon. The band began streaming the first single from their sophomore release on myspace last night, and it only has me more excited for this release.

Everything In Transit was a fucking sublime record. Definitely the definining album of '05 for me. While I'm not so sure The Glass Passenger can take that title (Butch Walker's new album is a sure thing), I'm certain it will be a close second. Everything In Transit captures exactly what summer is for me, something few records do. Everything from the opening (Holiday From Real, Mixed Tape) that promise a season of brilliance, to the conclusion (Rescued, MFEO, Into The Airwaves), that bring it to a close. Every track on that record was excellent, and this new single lives right up to it.

"The Resolution" is certainly a darker sound for the band. Theres a little more desperation in the vocals, a little more darkness in the lyrics. Andrew's voice is a bit more emotional, likely a result of his battle with cancer. The song itself doesnt seem a huge departure at first, but with further listening, you'll realize it sounds nothing like anything on "Everything In Transit". If the rest of the album is as good as this song, I have no doubt that it will surpass its predecessor. Heres to hoping it will.
