WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

you said you'd never have regrets

Have you ever heard a song so great that it changes the way you look at the world? A song so good that it gives you hope, not only for music, but for yourself? A song so good that it can be a light for you when everything else is dark. In 2007 i found just a handful of those songs, and Jimmy Eat World's Dizzy was the greatest of them all. Absolutely incredible from beginning to end. Perfect musically, lyrically, emotionally. This song still sounds fresh 100 good listens later, still gives me chills. The song just builds and builds until it reaches its breathtaking bridge, at which point half the band drops out, leaving just a voice, a single guitar, and the faint drums keeping the beat. That voice, Jim Adkins, pours every ounce of himself into that bridge, reaching heights every male vocalist would kill for. Finally, the bridge concludes with a final emotional wail from Adkins, but something special happens. Something that without fail has given me a rush of chills every time. The remainder of the band drops out, and for just one second, Adkins voice is alone, and the lyrics suddenly seem more powerful, more meaningful. An instant later, the band comes crashing back in for the final chorus, and far too soon, the song is over. Without a doubt, the single greatest song Jimmy Eat World has ever released, without a doubt the single greatest song of 2007. But perhaps it should be sitting somewhere else, among the greatest songs of all time.
