80s movie magic:music of Top Gun - Great or Garbage?

Posted over 2 years ago
^^I was going to use an actual shot from the movie, but this one is even betterOne of my favorite movies growing up...cheesy as hell, but always good for a laugh. I remember these songs vividly, but I came across the videos and found myself rolling. Check 'em out.Harold Faltermeyer & Steve Stevens' "Top Gun Anthem" (be sure to watch until the guitar-shredding end)Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone"And if you realize that you are missing out on this piece of american history, feel free to buy "here":http://www.amazon.com/Top-Soundtrack-Original-Motion-Picture/dp/B00000K2UX/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-8156679-2397768?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1184077815&sr=8-1.

  1. seeks says Great! Mainly because of the nostalgia. When I was a kid I used to run across the street (after I looked both ways) while belting the dangerzone guitar riff. Yeah maybe I still do it on occasion. Good stuff. Good times.

  2. davesonic says I still like the anthem(could do without seeing the video) and the Cheap Trick track "Mighty Wings" is still a fun 80's rocker, the rest of the album is a funny memory from when I was 14, as is the movie itself.

  3. gympumpkin says I love the music. When I was a gymnast one of my teammates used Top Gun Anthem as her floor exercise music. It always reminds me of her.

  4. RaG3aH0liC says That's how I felt dave.....I love the songs, but seeing the video sullied the music in my mind. seeks.....I have had these two songs stuck in my head for about 48 hours now.....I can't lose them.

  5. kat3260 says Must admit I didn't know anything about Steve Stevens until I saw that stellar performance there, so I headed over to "the bio on his website":http://www.stevestevens.net/new/Biography.htm. There I learned of his near tragedy while working in a bra factory, the musical magic he created with Billy Idol, and his flowering love of the flamenco guitar. Thank you for unlocking the vault on this guy - I will be forever changed.

  6. RaG3aH0liC says I did the same yesterday t5. After seeing him shred that axe, I had to know more. And now, I too, am forever young, erm, changed.

  7. kat3260 says I suspect (from that bio) that Steve's ego might be writing checks his body can't cash....

  8. Jonh Ingham says Berlin - 'Take My Breath Away'....Georgio Moroder at his absolute best. How come my physics teachers didn't wear seamed stockings, pencil skirts and a tight white blouse??

  9. RaG3aH0liC says I'm pissed trin.....I couldn't find the youtube I was looking for. It is a sad day for my searching abilities. I was looking for the scene that you quoted....where the bald admiral guy is chewing them out.....I found it, but in spanish.....it is funny that way....but anyway....I did find this gold..... Tarantino discussing top gun from "Sleep With Me" which leads me to this.......Top Gun / Brokeback style

  11. ZZTodd says lol who doesn't love top gun? now granted, the movie is a little dated now and not that great, but who cares? and i think the music fits perfectly with it. this is really funny actually, 'cause i was walking around in home depot yesterday and they were playing "she's lost that loving feeling" over the speakers. i pretty much started cracking up as i could not help but think of the bar scene and sing along.

  12. Rawkkiddoh says A movie I never got into. This, Dirty Dancing and Footloose are all ones I avoided as a kid. Then again, my skate punk friends would have had a field day if they ever found out I was watching any of those films. As for Kenny Loggins, well I prefer him like this

  13. Lizziegreeneyes says I will always hold a special place in my heart for Kenny Loggins & for Top Gun - the movie is Great Garbage (it can be both right ???) but I still enjoy a good chunk of the songs on that soundtrack - maybe it is more out of nostalgia - but there's really not a lot of music I don't like. When I watch TG now, I concentrate on Goose (always did though - I like the funny ones) & Iceman - Tom Cruise never flicked my bic if you're pickin up what I am laying down ???? Digit - I knew you would ;) Caddyshack = best KENNY LOGGINS SONG EVER - and easily one of my favorite films... Bill Murray = funny guy = very VERY HAPPY lge ;)
