"311":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/311_%28band%29 .....rarely will you ever find a band that people are so passionate about loving/hating. I personally like the band, but I go on spells of 6 months to a year that I can not hear their music. I don't know what it is....P-nut, Chad Sexton, & Tim Mahoney are all good musicians. They really put on a great live show, but something about their music can be reaaallly annoying.**cough, cough...SA! There is no doubt in my mind that they have gone downhill as their albums have come along. "Music":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_%28311_album%29 & "Grassroots":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grassroots_%28album%29 are by far their best offerings. These two albums were followed up by the "self-titled":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/311_%28album%29 album that landed them into the mainstream & the "Transistor":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transistor_%28311_album%29 album that is a very good listen as a complete album. 311 has had albums since, but they have been a let down....a few singles at the most were the only redeeming qualities of any recent offerings. Well, MOG, you tell me, do you love them or hate them? I am on the fence...I have seen them several times live and they deliver....but there is something that keeps them from being a favorite. One of their better efforts from Grassroots, with a little funk for the Friday occasion. HomebrewIt should be noted....members of "311 were involved in a lounge-brawl w/Scott Stapp":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/311_%28band%29#311_vs._Scott_Stapp which has got to be worth a few points in anyone's book.

I agree! Their old stuff is fantastic. Chill, spacey, psychadelic (sp?), herb influenced. Their new stuff is alright but SA singing is something that might...or maybe definitely have to grow on me. Last summer was the first time that I missed them at Nissan in 5 years...were you at any of those?
I swear I feel like everytime I listen to transistor it makes me feel like I'm high. One of my favs by them.
The producer that they've worked with a hell of a lot, Saint...does anyone know what/who else he's produced?

Hu^lo..!? <---well that guy loves them. so what about that? I have been leaning toward your side of this one for a while....I can like them, but that hasn't been the case for a while

I like them, more so in the early 90's. But I know what you mean as far as listening to them on and off. Sometimes I'm feeling them, and sometimes not. But all in all, I rate them 2 thumbs up, and they do deliver live. I loved them in concert!

was it ever up to 30? I thought a solid 10 count, and I'm out. But the new/improved Briman is at t5k&zac's place. I was only there for a little bit and I amazingly managed to stay awake

hate em. wanted to like them. met them backstage at radio station sponsored concert in phoenix years ago. they invited me to their "end of tour" party that night. then they cancelled that party an hour later.

I've always been "Meh" about them, although I have seen them live. I do like their Cure cover on the 50 First Dates soundtrack.
And they definitely get points for throwing Scott Stapp the beatdown.

Like stoner humor, you get tired of them after awhile. When I first heard them, it seemed ground breaking. When I hear their stuff now, it still sounds exactly the same as the stuff they put out 10 years ago. The line "Whoa, amber is the color of your energy" makes me want to throw up as if I heard some dud trying to pick up a chick at a bar with it. Please, uninspired. So I guess I would have to say - hate em.

Back in my record store workin' days, the utes were always pullin' my ear about these cats and Sublime..out of context in shuffle plays and such, I have heard the songs and I've liked 'em..I believe I need to investigate a little further. Thanks for the rundown.

haven't listened to them in ages - dug two outta the vaults & never actually listened but for one or two songs - you're right about timing with them. On a really warm summer day though - I love their vibe ! Where I could still enjoy The Verve Pipe regardless of how many times I heard their stuff in the bars - kinda had the opposite ocurr with 311 - looks like I need to pop it in the player... Thanks youse.

HOLD THE PHONE - THEY WERE ON *_THE_* POT... that's just all kinds of wrong... I had _know_ idea they rocked the reefer... for shame !

Love 'em. Yes, sometime after _Soundsystem_ SA's voice became a liability and each record had a decreasing rock element (which will supposedly come back on the next record), but overall I can enjoy the new LPs. And, just as RaG3aH0liC stated, these dudes put it down live like few bands do. I encourage anyone who is an above-average fan to attend a 3-11 Day show if they get the chance- it's some of the most fun you'll have at a show...who's in for 3/11/2008??
RaG3aH0liC says
Ok, good work to all over the weekend on this one. It seemed like there were a lot that share my sentiments....they are good, but not an everyday listen. Whereas the haters know to say no, thanks. The final wishy-washy count comes in at 8 votes for liking, 4 for hating and four in the middle. And some of those "love'em" votes were questionable as to being a like or an in the middle.
The prize goes to "River L":http://mog.com/River_Lethe for recognizing the most important part about 311.....they kicked Scott Stapp's ass. Whether you hate 311 or not, it is far more important to look down our noses at Creed/Scott Stapp/Nickelback (Axis of SUCK).

i have always loved them, they are positive and great people. i have seen them 6 times and am going to the 311 day show in new orleans. i dont know what you have against SA but oh well he is amazing. all of them are. chad is one of the bestd rummers and P-nut is the best bass player i have ever seen. they have an overwhelming stage presence and live shows are the best.
