MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Hey, you! Yes, you who are about to shove your finger down your throat. Stop. This isn't about the song. It's about the performance, and not even Clapton's performance.

There are some great musicians who are comfortable enough in their own skin to step aside for a moment, and let other, not-well-known, artists have a moment, in the spotlight, to let their talents shine.

Clapton has always appreciated other musicians, and, aside from his own music, I think one of his greatest contributions has been the extent to which he's allowed obscure, but talented, musicians to take that spotlight.

This particular performance of Wonderful Tonight was recording during the first Crossroads benefit concert at Madison Square Garden, in 1999. The whole concert is available on DVD.

Toward the end of the song, the spotlight turns to Katie Kissoon, whose vocal interpretation sends chills up and down my spine and brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

Enjoy.
