I couldn't find a video of Joe Jackson doing this song, but I don't think it's necessarily something less to listen to Inara George's version.When it comes to lyricists from the new age/punk era, I think Joe Jackson heads the list. To be certain, Elvis Costello turned a decent phrase or two (c.f. Watching the Detectives), but Joe Jackson consistently turned out song after song laced with wit and charm.Fools in Love is a great example. After disparaging all fools in love, he cuts strait to the quick with, "I should know, because this fool's in love again."One could do an entire series of posts about Joe Jackson's lyrics, from the poignant Real Men to the geek anthem (at least it was an anthem for this geek back in 1979) Is She Really Going Out with Him (check out the a capella version from Joe Jackson: Live 1980-1986). Joe Jackson's is a career worth wading through. For now, let's just enjoy a song that's appropriate for woeful valentines:
