the president of the United States"Redefining the role of the United States from enablers to keep the peace to enablers to keep the peace from peacekeepers is going to be an assignment."- George W. Bush January 14, 2001 Quoted in the New York Times. Free societies are hopeful societies. And free societies will be allies against these hateful few who have no conscience, who kill at the whim of a hat. --George w. BushWashington, DC09/17/2004

  1. Smooth Hegemon says Tonight's nominee for "worst person in the world" on _Countdown with Keith Olbermann_ is "White House spokesman Tony Fratto":http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17352260/ He explained to reporters that we didn't invade Iraq, "We went in as a multi-national force under U.N. authorization to take military action in Iraq." Something that might be disagreed with by... the facts! Next week it'll be: "Iraq? We never invaded Iraq. We're not even there now."

  3. mktackabery says I used to be incredulous about George W. Bush, before the day when we were about 100 steps from Osama bin Laden and Bush belayed the order to send in an air strike and take him down because he was busy planning the invasion of Iraq. Osama is still out there, and we have the biggest, most expensive mess in the history of our nation on our hands. Now I'm just incredulous that the rest of the world doesn't assassinate him and call it self-defense.

  5. mickimicki says Michelle, careful, someone out here might get an idea... BTW he's probably thinking just the same (or, rather, his minders are); you should see the security measures when he comes and honours us with a visit. Whole cities are virtually closed down, not to mention people forbidden to open their own windows if they happen to face W.'s parading route... Good song, too. Pimp, you are clearly on a roll.

  6. chucky says Michelle, be careful what you wish for. Cheney wouldn't be an improvement. And...that's all I have to say. Nobody likes GWB. We just have to bide our time until the embarrassment is over.

  9. River Lethe says Well they almost got Cheney yesterday. And be careful what you say mctackabery, you probably just ended up on a list somewhere! Welcome back, PIMP. It's gonna take a long time for everyone to recover from this administration. All of 'em, for that matter, Congress, Pentagon, etc. "One of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the great struggle for Independence." Charles A. Beard "The demand to give up illusions about the existing state of affairs is the demand to give up a state of affairs which needs illusions." Karl Marx "If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things." Rene Descartes "The twentieth century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy." Alex Carey "A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider godfearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side." Aristotle "Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul." Mark Twain "Only the vigilant can maintain their liberties, and only those who are constantly and intelligently on the spot can hope to govern themselves effectively by democratic procedures. A society, most of whose members spend a great deal of their time not on the spot, not here and now in the calculable future, but somewhere else, in the irrelevant other worlds of sport and soap opera, of mythology and metaphysical fantasy, will find it hard to resist the encroachments of those who would manipulate and control it." Aldous Huxley "Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." Martin Luther King Jr. "Those who give up essential liberties for temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin "A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" Thomas Jefferson "Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear - kept us in a continuous stampede of pseudo patriotic fervor - with the cries of grave national emergency. always there has been some terrible evil to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it by furnishing the exorbitant funds demanded. Yet, in retrospect, these disasters seem never to have happened, seem never to have been quite real." General Douglas McArthur "There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; and the other is to refuse to believe what is true." Søren Kierkegaard "A terrorist is someone who has a bomb, but doesn't have an air force." William Blum "Individuals have international duties which transcend the national obligations of obedience. Therefore, (individual citizens) have the duty to violate domestic laws to prevent crimes against peace and humanity from occurring." Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal "To summarize: it is a well known and much lamented fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made president should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem." Douglas Adams And finally. . . "You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." Mohandas K. Gandhi
