Like A Rock

Words and music by bob segerStood there boldlySweatin in the sunFelt like a millionFelt like number oneThe height of summerI'd never felt that strongLike a rockI was eighteenDidn't have a careWorking for peanutsNot a dime to spareBut I was lean andSolid everywhereLike a rockMy hands were steadyMy eyes were clear and brightMy walk had purposeMy steps were quick and lightAnd I held firmlyTo what I felt was rightLike a rockLike a rock, I was strong as I could beLike a rock, nothin ever got to meLike a rock, I was something to seeLike a rockAnd I stood arrow straightUnencumbered by the weightOf all these hustlers and their schemesI stood proud, I stood tallHigh above it allI still believed in my dreamsTwenty years nowWhere'd they go?Twenty yearsI don't knowSit and I wonder sometimesWhere they've goneAnd sometimes late at nightWhen I'm bathed in the firelightThe moon comes callin' a ghostly whiteAnd I recallRecallLike a rock. standin' arrow straightLike a rock, chargin' from the gateLike a rock, carryin' the weightLike a rockLike a rock, the sun upon my skinLike a rock, hard against the windLike a rock, I see myself againLike a rock

  4. extraordinarypoems says I think that is one of the best set of lyrics ever. The song gives me chills at different points. For instance, the softly almost spoken, "Twenty years ... " part. Love Segar. I've got great memories of being 15 and having a major crush on a fellow who sang in a band. He was 18, and my sweet mother would walk me down to the club where he played and let me listen to him sing "Main Street." Heavenly.
