If by alternative, you mean the moniker given to non-hair metal, rock sounding bands in the 90's, I'd say alt..for all time I'd say Rock.

Being as early 90s was sort of my "coming of age" period, I'd have to go with alt, although more because that's what I'm used to thinking of them as, not due to any real criteria.

but my problem really is WHAT is alternative now?

see i keep my genres to a MINIMUM

like about 22 in a library of 145,000 or so songs

i think of "alternative" as like weird n indie music

this band to me RAWKS :)

    THANKS

What is alternative NOW?  That's a good question.  I don't know if that title really makes sense anymore--back in the day it was sort of a catch-all for things that didn't fit neatly into anything else, but there's been such an explosion of styles and names to go with it in the last decade that I think the term "alternative" is kind of dead, now.  At least, to me.

like i said "alternative now is like indie (hate that one too) and weird music

cause see i don't own much of dat

    hahaha

i have NEVER really liked nor embraced the "alternative" moniker either

basically i don't do "sub" genres

    THIS is the problem

see to me there are only 25 to 30 gerenes in music PERIOD

    but 100's of sub genres

    and

ONLY on MOG this would be discussed :)

and PIMP would be half drunk wondering this

If irst remember hearing them on 120 minutes on MTV. That was a pure alternative music show- so I continue to think of them as that. But, that type of alternative has knid of died out these days, so NOW, they are probably ROCK.
