WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Nostalgic...4 now

Posted about 1 year ago
It's that time again where an lp/music transports me back in time like a some sort of twilight zone episode. Theres not much i would rather do on a Saturday than listen to music and escape.see right about now I'm in a very awkward place in my life.the place where i chose to face my pain and fears.i would much rather medicate and hide from these.but that only prolongs the inevitable.i used to grab these Ventures lp's out of my Dad's stack of music and was just memorized by the sound of these guitars n drums.none more so than this. Well my life is really telling,as a "big" brother...i have failed.my brother is gone and my sister is crazy.i don't have much except the memories and the abilty to change the man in the mirror.what a tangled web we weave.at least today i weave alone and sober.*PEACE*

  2. sam9muhr says Every song I've ever heard brings back memories of a certain instance. Just today on shuffle, my iPod went to "Hey Baby" by No Doubt and I instantly smiled because I thought of dancing with friends back at junior high school dances. "Jet Airliner" by Steve Miller always reminds me of driving places with my mom and singing the wrong lyrics when I was 6 or so. "Fire" by the Ohio Players always reminds me of eating breakfast at a supermarket buffet after a drunken night in the city. And basically any Motley Crue song brings out a good laugh because I have seen their songs played live so many times and not remembered a single one of them! Hahaha. ...Then there are the sad ones, but we don't need none'a that right now. Let the music be good, Pimp. Drink for FUN, cuz as an escape, it's only temporary! Just my thoughts, anyway, from your young dotter. :)

Then of course...The Ventures did that pounding "Wild Child" track that was sampled decades later by The Wiseguys. Great riff and an awesome guitar solo.

  7. Bartleby says A most poignant post. "Nostalgia," from a French word was coined in the 16th century meaning the "pain of the past" ("algia" is Ancient Greek for pain). In my opinion, if we feel pain it means that we are alive. The hardest thing is finding enough strength to endure the suffering and the wrecking which makes up our life. Hard but not impossible as life also gives us the soothing balm which is friendship and love. (Not necessarily that between a man and a woman). Peace to you, Pimp.

  8. ROCKNROLLPIMP says man,how a few words can touch and help heal a heart yeah i am a warrior therefore i will endure and overcome. yet there will always be doubt and pain that my actions (or lack of sometimes) could maybe have changed things *rawk*

  13. levek says I thought you would be playing "Telstar". Here is the Tornados' version: BTW, I recently saw a fun definition of nostalgia by someone called The Lion (I couldn't identify the author's real name): "Nostalgia: when you find the present tense and the past perfect."

  14. ROCKNROLLPIMP says i love that definition! and groovy version of that song (the ventures smoke em though ;p)

  15. levek says I agree that the Ventures' rendition is better but you have to take into account the fact that the Tornados (sometimes Tornadoes) was made in 1962. Wiki has an interesting article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telstar_(song)
