You know........I was all set not to like this....bound and determined not to like this...but I'd say keep it. With all the songs you have it'll only come up every fourth Shrove Tuesday anyway. But you my friend are a true patriot and so I present you with this flag

Yeah, this one isn't so great.  However, the cover of Axis, by the Pretenders is dead on.  That might be my favorite rtrack on this cd, which I wore out quite a bit back in the proverbial day.

uh, kc, this really really really sucks. you know, it's bad enough jimi's dead without people doing this to his songs. maybe if they'd covered this earlier, back around killing an arab, they coulda done a primitive rock version that mattered. but jesus, all i can think is they were feeling suicidal but too pussy to do it themselves so they recorded this in the hopes that jimi would rise from the dead and strike them down.

Jimi + drum machines=KILL..I don't normaly have a prob with the Cure either.

My pops was once in a movie called Purple Haze about a teen growing up in 60's Minneapolis..this was not the version of Purple Haze they used.

They kinda took the paranoia out of the tune.

Is there a good cover of Purple Haze?

pat traves does a pretty good one

buddy miles's is ok kinda funky....

dawn tyler does one that i am not sure how the hell to take it.kinda jazzy

frank zappa's is weird n groovy

ozzy's (with sabbath i think) off of prince of darkness is pretty good

robert randolph does it well(on a boot i have)

    winger's version i always dug

Paul Rodgers and Company live version is alright

2 great versions of Purple Haze:

The Fibonaccis, and "Vapeur Mauve" by The Haunted (Canadian garage greats.)

i have not heard either of those rob.

may have to burn one from vinyl, thought i'd gotten the other recently (knew it but didn't own it), will go through the vastness and try to find these over the weekend.

Fibonaccis is a psychedelic punk version, the Haunted was a 60s band that did it pretty straight-up with French vocals.

i'd stick with jimi doin it if i could only have one; for covers i prefer the ones that alter it totally but still rock.

so hey, the album that started this post: what song does buddy guy play?

Something kinda cool about their interpetation of this tune. Didn't know what to think of it until the vocals came in then it got my intrest. Almost sounds like what Sade would do with song.

I was going to go all Henry Fonda on all you angry men, but the more it goes on the duller it gets. Maybe my prozac hasn't kicked in yet. It's fairly trippy in a background kinda way, but it ain't no Lullaby or Forest.
