Mathcore Bands According To The Wiki

Never really understood what this whole mathmetal, mathcore really was. So did some wiki research, and this is what I got.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MathcoreBotch: We Are The Romans

  3. Groon says Hmmm . . . I always thought Don Caballero was considered mathcore, too (minus the vocals, according to the wiki) but I guess not. Can't listen to these right now, but I definitely will later.

  4. RGM says And I always hear these guys are also: Meshuggah - Transfixion

  5. Spike says From my having the stamina to watch only the first video, I'll try to describe it. They have choreography, like old soul groups. They reduce the sound to repetitive instrumental riffs and one-note vocal percussion. Their energy and rhythmic interplay are the focus.

  6. RGM says Never heard of them, but guess they are. They have a Primus element to their sound. Don Caballero Live 1999 'Delivering the Groceries http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Caballero

  7. RGM says Spike : Never thought of it that way, but that's a good observation.

  8. brittanybf says spike: very nicely put. RGM: i know converge's music, the various genres of hardcore, but mathcore...i don't know if i've ever known converge was considered mathcore. hm, neat. i think they are better than the title makes them sound though. but i knew about Nintendocore

  9. RobinH says Excellent post Ray. I've got Botch's - Anthology Of Dead Ends and a couple of Dillinger albums. Ah, Brittany, don't get me started on Nintendocore. Check out this lot. Horse the Band - Bunnies. Although this may have been already posted as a MOG 'protest' song. LOL.

  10. extraordinarypoems says What an interesting collection of music here. Thanks for sharing. Some of it is too heavy for me, but others I liked.

  11. brittanybf says Robin: That song hits close to home. Horse the Band played at my friends' practice space in smalltown nowhere after the show they had meant to play got shut down (too heavy on the nintendocore for the venue?). Mogger Ohjaepil was involved in that night... I had never seen the video though, haha. "Bunnies" good song/I'm immune to its badness by now?

  12. RobinH says Hey Brittany, not had the chance to check them out in the UK yet, what were they like live? Have you checked out An Albatross, they get roped in with the whole Nintendocore tag as well. I think. "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QETcXlAS6bk":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QETcXlAS6bk

  13. brittanybf says ahhh! yes An Albatross. I forgot about them. Is Daughters in that whole scene too? Hmm.

  15. RobinH says I must admit to having real troubles getting handles on genre which contains such diverse musical styles. I've heard the names An Albatross, HORSE The band, DJ Scotch Egg, Nullsleep, Powerglove all called Nintendocore at some point. It seems some get called it because the compose on 'gameboys', some because they use a 'chip-tunes' emulator keyboard and some because the 'cover' the original tunes in the games.

  16. brittanybf says I have to admit I think I have a soft spot for hardcore/Nintendocore bands covering video game songs. RGM: what in the world? that thing is a monster! the bass, not the guy playing it. that song makes me happy!
    Permalink posted 05/20/2008
  17. RGM says It's an 11 string sub-contra bass, or as other's have nicknamed it the plank. That song brings back memories... :)

  18. brittanybf says serious plankage

  19. darmuzz says RGM, I love all this music. The Dillinger Escape Plan vid was super scary and thrilling! (Me likes). Great idea for you to do a round-up, thanks. I get confused about these genres too, especially when they cross over into prog rock like Enter Shikari.

  20. RGM says darmuzz: Thanks, The Dillinger Escape Plan tune has Mike Patton singing on it. He did an ep called "Irony Is a Dead Scene" with the band while they were between singers. I always thought Mesuggah was prog death metal\thrash. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony_Is_a_Dead_Scene

  21. Wade says ah, so Polvo is Math Rock and not mathcore. Glad Wikipedia could set me straight on that. I loved those guys. If anyone else cares, they got back together recently for a couple of shows in chapel hill.

  22. RGM says Never heard Polvo till now, but rock seems to be the key word here. I 'd say more alternative rock.
