Bailing Out Banks

There has been a lot of talk in the news recently about the Federal Reserve and the actions it has taken over the past few months. Many media pundits have been bending over backwards to praise the Fed for supposedly restoring stability to the market. This interpretation of the Fed's actions couldn't be further from the truth.   2. Bartleby says Interesting point of view. I see it as a fair representation of US conflicted opinion when it comes to federal intervention and governmental action as a whole. Should there be more or should there be less?

  3. BerkeleyBob says Yeah, there's some chatter about "moral hazard" of government bailouts and one economist who preciently predicted instability resulting from financial overexuberance. There was a bailout of a hedge fund (Credit General) and the S&L bailout a few years back as well as the dot-com bust. Common denominator in these bubbles is "wisdom" to the effect that This time is different and prior experience inapplicable and unrealistic appraisals. In reality, the political policy of the past 20 years or so has been to curtail government regulation and enjoy the fruits of socialism and subsidy for the rich and rugged competition and free markets for the poor. Excuse the rant, and I know this isn't the usual topic of discussion in this forum for music heads. BerkBob

  5. RGM says mollifire: Thanks, the other song that came to mind was into the void, but the subject matter of the song is far off . I did like the title of that song for this. Bartleby: Far less as it stands. As I always say to people,were thier boss! BerkeleyBob : It's a mess. Doomsayer : It seems the comman citizen doesn't really have any say. Yea that protest against the war worked out really great (right). I'm writing Ron Pauls name on the ballot, I don't like my choices at this point.

  11. mollifire says Doomsayer - my sentiments exactly. i wish we had 1 vote (for what we wanted the tax $ spent on) for every dollar of tax money paid... or some kind of choice.
