  2. anna log says if you like ELO, you should check out The Shazam they're pretty great at that 70s ELO/Cheap Trick thing... they sound like (producer) Jack Douglas's greatest hits.. and I mean that in a very good way.

Have to add that The Shazam does fall into that ballpark as well. Not exactly the sound of Jeff Lynne's production and arrangement but a really good band just the same.

Have to admit that the sounds of the Electric Light Orchestra have always been a part of my life. Something about those Beatle like songs as if they were sung by Bob Dylan was cool (thought the same thing about Stealers Wheel back then too *lol). Throw in some violas and cellos over some melodic rock and it's magic! It may be that particular thought process that made the thought of Jeff Lynne working with George Harrison and Bob Dylan along with Tom Petty and Roy Orbison one of the finest recorded moments in the history of pop. Everytime someone asks me what was the best album of eighties, I will always skip the obvious ones that always make those lists like "The Joshua Tree" from U2 or "Purple Rain" by Prince. Hands down for me is "Volume One" from The Traveling Wilburys. Personally it is still one of my favorite albums from the last twenty-five years.

Back to ELO. One of the most underrated bands in the history of rock and roll! The 80's material may have had one too many drum machines and synths but then again didn't most bands from the 80's (*lol)? Those wonderful songs that they cranked out in the seventies will live forever. Even the earlier bands that led to ELO like The Move and The Idle Race have some great material.

  7. Spike says Most under-rated because they weren't enough like the Clash, perhaps. For me, "Turn to Stone" is a treat to meet for the first time, here.
