Posted about 1 year ago
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Verizon Wireless is joining Sprint Nextel Corp. in jumping on the latest craze in the wireless world: little boxes called femtocells that boost cell-phone coverage in subscribers' homes. 1. B42 says Fifty bucks for the box + 15 per month, it looks like it helps them as much as it helps the customer so I think it should be cheaper. Interesting article, thanks

  4. B42 says Pretty well thanks for asking, and you? I saw Blondie awhile ago and she looked quite a bit older than she does in this vid, but I'd probably still give her a call for old times sake. Missin' your Mom?

  5. RGM says I'm good, have a buddy who was really obsessed over Debra Harry. He eventually met her, he might be over by now. Just re-added Mom, just wasn't the same lol. Taking it off didn't do much as far as speeding my computer. BTW have you ever met Debra Harry (did I butcher he name?)? I haven't.

  6. B42 says No, never met her, and mom on or mom off I don't notice much difference either.

  7. Scotch says It's a good deal for the carrier, especially when you consider that prices on these things is going to come WAY down if they catch on. Will the price follow? Nope. And where's AT&T? Frickin' ass-backward AT&T... Though, to be fair, the US (and all its carriers) is a backwater compared with other parts of the world when it comes to mobility. "Current models cost around $200, meaning that Sprint is already subsidizing the units substantially." Well, duh. You mean, EXACTLY like handsets? I agree with B42, that it should be cheaper. I've been curious about how well the femtocell hands off to the tower, and vice versa. Same for T-Mo's GSM/WiFi setup. For less money (ultimately), I can just buy a cell booster and call it a day.

  8. RGM says Now if we can only get better reception.

  9. Scotch says Well, an amplifier/booster will do that.

  10. RGM says Sometimes those amplifier/booster don't really do that much on certain phones. I got one once for my old motorola, and ended up returning it because it really didn't make that much of a diffrence. But maybe you'll have better luck.

  11. Scotch says It depends on who made the booster, and how it interfaces with the phone. Old phones often have a place to plug the booster into, but newer phones usually don't. In the latter case, you need to stick the booster transceiver to the back of the phone, where the antenna would be if it's internal. If the phone doesn't "see" that, it won't work, no matter what. After dealing with their stuff over the years as a Cingular tech, I'm a firm believer in Wilson boosters.

  12. RGM says Thanks for the INFO and heads up on the Wilson boosters.

  13. Scotch says My pleasure. They aren't cheap, but I haven't seen anything better. Just make sure you know what kind of technology (GSM, CDMA or iDEN) your phone uses.
