John Zorn and Steven Colbert

Posted over 5 years ago
So caught the The Steven Colbert Show Tonight, funny as alway's, but at the beginning just a little slam on avant garde jazz musician John Zorn, where he made a comparison of himself playing some random upper register tone's on sax in front of bastketball player Kareem, making it seem like it was no big deal. If you are not familiar with Zorn he produced the first Mr. Bungle Album, and was an influence to their sound, you can hear remnants of it on his "Naked City" Release.

  2. eshep says zorn was given a genius grant this week, so that musta been why it was colbert-worthy. i missed that clip. thank god for youtube - hopefully it'll be up later. here's a kickass site some dude put together about zorn and his career, discography. naked city is just the tip of the iceberg. although it's a very tasty tip of the iceberg.

  3. RGM says That was it, surprise he didn't start a special list for it. Be great to see Zorn on his show as a guest.

  4. pETULENTfRENZY9000 says A busy man he stil is......... I think it was back in like '81 or '85 when he released five albums in one year.Crazy. I hear a lot that "Zorn is not for everyone",but with such a huge body of work to choose from, how can there not be. Granted Painkiller might not be for everyone, but how about "The Gift". Like Chamber music??done. Jewish wedding songs?? done. A nice healthy dose of "What the hell do you call that?!?"...O'plenty And how opposite sides of the spectrum are the "Cobra" series and "Redbird"? Zorn one of the greastest composers we have today.I'd take being slammed (or whatever) on the Cobert Rapoor as a backhanded compliment with a side of fries. O'yeah..and Steward / Colbert 2008!!! (why not??)
