So I'm in my early 20's finally out on my own, another atempt at college. This is my my post Hollywood 80's gig days, I mention my old band to a friend between classes, a voice from the background says "I've heard of you guy's!' I'm like really? So then I find out this guy's a drummer and that question come's up, "You Wanna Jam Dude?" We end up hitting it off and like alway's I try to quit music, but music just won't quit me! So this guy is a well studied drummer tell's me that he's studying with a cat named "Joey Herredia", Who use to play with this band called Tribal Tech. He had this tape from them called Illicit, he made me copy and I was not impressed at first till I got some background especially from the bass player, who I and my bass Teacher at the time thought was a Jaco rip off, but after reading an article about him changed my mind and only broadened it, Bassist Gary Willis explained that he was playing in the tradition of Jaco and wanted to continue where he left off on five string bass guitar, at the time he was and still does play from time to time for Alan Holdsworth. My friend later studied with Kirk Covington, who I would call the John Bohnam Of Neo Fusion. I would question some of Wikipidia's info unless it's from the source and I was just give conflicting info the source at the time, I talked to Gary Willis Briefly after an Alan Holdsworth around early millinia, and he mentioned that they where waiting for the record C.O. to give them the O.K. to do another one.......(Following Info From Wilkipidia.com) Tribal Tech is a progressive fusion band, originally formed in 1984 by guitarist Scott Henderson and bass player Gary Willis. The band includes Scott Kinsey on keyboard and Kirk Covington on drums, and has produced nine CDs that stretch the borders between blues, jazz, and rock. The band is widely regarded for the prodigious talents of its individual members and for its importance to the modern fusion music scene, but has dissolved following the release of 2000's Rocket Science, with the various members pursuing solo careers.
