Posted 5 months ago

Posted by Brier Dudley Microsoft confirmed Tuesday that it plans to introduce a new Zune device this fall, continuing the company's uphill battle to establish itself as a player in the digital music business. Details are still scarce but the new ZuneHD will include high-definition video output, HD radio, a browser and an advanced touchscreen. Simultaneously Microsoft is stepping up efforts to put Zune software and Web services on other hardware, starting with the Xbox.

I have had friends who are hardcore zune users try to sell me on zune but they never will because of one deal breaker. Your paying for somthing and getting nothing. sure you can listen to tracks and add them to your library but you can't burn them to cd, e-mail them to friends, I don't even think you can mog them. basically your paying for somthing you get for free at last fm. Oh yeah and a proprietary little box that crashes from time to time eraseing your library and playlist that you paid good money for. yep when I buy an mp3 I wanna own that bitch I wanna be able to do what ever i want with it even if that means burning it to a mix cd for a friend, Inserting it into a viral video, and making copies of it on other peoples computers. It's my track I paid for it! So to all you zune users why are you paying to use bill gates music collection? why not start your own? (I don't have an i-pod either cause theyre overpriced and kinda dumb looking) I use my phone and a cheapo mp3 player I got at wal mart for 20 bucks. microsoft and apple can bite me!

Dansemcabre - the ZunePass (monthly subscription) is just one offering available to Zune users, not the only way to get music through the Zune service.  You can buy individual tracks from the Zune Marketplace, and most of them are watermark-free MP3s - allowing you to put on any MP3 player, burn to disc, play on other computers, etc.

dansem...:ROTFLMAO! Dude that's one of the greatest response's I've gotten in a long time ! Yea I'll probably opt out for a Wal Mart special in the end also.(Your such an angry young man today)

Torch: Yea I've heard good & bad about the Zune & IPOD. I was just talking to someone on Facebook who uses a Zune, & digs it. Complaints I've heard about IPOD's were that they charge to just download tunes, & they don't have an extended warrenty offer on them. Zune, well just see post above yours lol!

how is this for an idea, fix the xbox before adding on to it. I read a report that 60% of xboxs shipped out get the red ring of death with in the first year of usage, that alone made me buy a PS3

Rawk...: I've heard great things about the X-Box, mainly the graphics. What do mean by the red ring of death Kevin? Are you meaning they just stop working? My brother has a PS2 & really likes it.

danse...: What do you mean by an experation date? Yea we're one in the same dude. Like I said I'll probably grab a cheapo mp3 player for trips & stuff. I usually listen to CD's, stuff off my computers, or something like LastFM. I'm pretty hooked on LastFM.PC is what I have as far games, think the last one bought was Quake tournament. Knew a guy who was really into Diablo. My wife's computer still uses windows 98 lol! I'm on an HP laptop with Win XP. Everyone tells me to get a Mac, but they are to limited & expensive for me. Man this stuff is almost as bad as instrument gear. A new thing comes out every week.

Pimp: So that's what Beatallica sounds like. Is that Hetfield on vocals or someone else? Sounds really like him. So tunes are still free on lala? Just suggested that site to someone who uses Zune. You have an IPOD right? Everyone I know wants the new IPOD phone.

BTW has anyone tried Nintendo Wii? Saw that yesterday at Costco. I don't hear a lot of great things about Nintendo games, but I hear that some people like the interactive exercises, & sports part of the Wii.

Currently I'm using a Sansa Clip (kinda like a iPod shuffle, but has everything the shuffle lacks like a display, radio, playlists, voice recorder, ect) with Shure SE530 Sound Isolating Earphones. Unfortunately this means updating the player every week with a new random set of tracks to keep things fresh since it only holds around 400 songs at 192. I've been looking into the Zune for a while now and may hold out for the ZuneHD once more info comes out. I need a player that can hold my entire library and play lossless (uncompressed) tracks so I can get the most out of my fancy headphones. Trust me, if I could find a non-M$ player that was big enough and bad enough I would jump on it. Until I find such a player, the Zune does look like a neat toy. Plus you can get it shipped with custom engraving... so that's pretty sweet.

dansemcabre - Just to clear some things up, you don't have to subscribe to the ZunePass to use the Zune player. You can just plop your MP3s into the Zune software. Unfortunately, you have to install the software to transfer songs onto the Zune Player because unlike most other MP3 Players (iPods not included) it doesn't show up like an external drive. If you *do* subscribe to the ZunePass Mounthly subscription they say that you can keep 10 songs a month as DRM-free MP3s, so it has that over LastFM. I'm a little peeved at LastFM right now since they are charging 'International' (ie anyone not in the states and UK) customers a monthly fee to listen to tracks and they offered user data to the RIAA.. Sure the LastFM subscription is only $3/month, and many people are saying that any info the RIAA get will be useless in court, but still. It's disheartning when a site you loved starts doing shady things.

^ Oh, and I forgot to add that the Zune software is just a badly repackaged version of Windows Media Player 11 with a few added socail features. Hopefully they will iron out all the kinks with the software update promised when ZuneHD comes out.

that riaa nad lastfm stuff is bullcrap

i had a link n rebutal to all the lies @ mogtiply i think

    people are really paranoid

i understand if somebody wants/needs to make a buck cause they can't make it with ads for their site/service

    can you say MOG

seems lastfm can only sell ads (because of the majority of people? not sure are in the us,uk and germany?

eh there are ALWAYS other methods to stream,dl and listen to music

i hardly ever used lastfm to listen to music

just to keep up with my listening habits.

which in all reality if they would have created groups (multiply) and stats (lastfm) here

    i never would bolted.

    feh whatever

There's a $3.00 subscription fee on Last FM outside the states? That sucks! I'd get an IPOD, but it's not worth it for me right now. Maybe Zune if anything, but I doubt it.
