Kurt Cobain's death, 15 years later, being marked with Friday tribute

Posted almost 3 years ago

A Kurt Cobain and Nirvana tribute concert by Nevermind and High Class Wreckage will take place at Motor in Seattle on Friday, April 10. Proceeds go to the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee, whose mission is to build a youth center and memorial park in Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen. By Marian Liu Seattle Times staff reporter It's been 15 years since Kurt Cobain died. Cobain was found dead in his Seattle home on April 8, 1994, with a shotgun wound to his head (the coroner would later estimate that he'd died on April 5). Cobain's iconic band, Nirvana, provided the music for the grunge generation, Gen X. To celebrate his life, Nevermind, the only Nirvana cover band officially endorsed by the Cobain family, will play a show Friday, April 10, with High Class Wreckage. The show will raise money for the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee, whose mission is to build a youth center and memorial park in Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen. The all-ages show starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Motor, 1950 First Ave. S, in Seattle. Tickets cost $13 (in advance through www.brownpapertickets.com) or $15 at the door. Rawk... & Anna: I'm 42 so I am old, well middle age. Kurt was born the same year a little over month after me.

    Charley R...: I agree, think it's from the "In Utero" tour. He cut his hair around that time.

    leftoverking: Yes it is...they were suppose to build a Kurt Cobain Stadium & statue in Aberdeen a few years ago. Didn't happened, but they have his star plaque in front of a music store in Aberdeen & this sign when you first enter the city.

    that sign is bad ass -> I understand now what old people (what I thought to be old) meant when they said that decades of their life flew by ->

    quite a few of my friends that have passed on to the other side 'modeled' their lifestyle after Kurt's -> and while I don't condone that kind of idolization, they were some of the down-home nicest cololest people I ever knew ->

    A good Kurt memory -> after a very hard week due to an overload of hard drugs, on April 8th maybe 7 or 8 years ago, me and my buddy Kevin snuck into a locked part of the state park and stayed up all night to watch the sun come up, and we read Cobain's poetry, listened to and speculated over all his trippy drawings for like 3 hours, at the time it was a 'spiritual' experience, we both cried and admitted a lot of things to each other...it was one of those 'cleansing' experiences that means a lot to me, we became best friends that night/early morning, and still would be today, no matter what one or the other believed, we'd still be friends ->

    Left..: Yea I thought it was cool when I first saw it. Guess this is where Kurt bought his first guitar. I can't find a picture of his star, but it's in front of this place just in front of the enterance. Pretty cool little shop, I've gotten my bass worked on there.

    Here's a link to a story about Kurt & Roseveers.

    It's like what they say about Jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius. Play like him, but don't live like him.

    Word to that -> a friend, Bob, actually shotgunned himself on Kurt's 5 year anniversary...and while I miss him and it sucks, it's also just plain stupid to idolize someone in the good things, but also choose to copy the lesser things as well ->

    So it's the 8th -> RIP Kurt, B.O.B., josh, Kevin & heather

    I had a radio show the day after it happened..although it was a Funk show I took a long time chastising folks for elevating stars so high,just to see them fall..Even though I wasn't a huge fan, I don't think I was ever so sad about the passing of a "star."

    That's a pretty big venue for a cover band.  Why didn't Flipper play?  Why wasn't anyone in a band that actually knew him involved?

    Doom...: Sure was.

    Cody B: He's one missed dude.

    Dead C: Flipper would have been cool.
