WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

"The total and utter King of Rock and Roll" - Cliff Richard: Wired for Sound and Living Doll, with The Young Ones

Posted over 2 years ago
It's the video that does it for me. Who could resist Cliff in a leather jacket, tight leather trousers, roller skates and a pair of headphones on, singing about loving "small speakers" and "tall speakers". I thought for a long time that he was singing about "small speed-boats" and "tall speed-boats". Silly me. Take a look at this most excellent video clip. The technology referred to is rather past it, but we can relate to it."Walkin' about with a head full of musicCasette in my pocket and I'm gonna use it-stereo-out on the street you know-woh oh woh...""Power from the needle to the plasticA.m.-f.m. I feel so ecstatic nowIt's music I've foundAnd I'm wired for sound"A MOG anthem, perhaps. I jest.Cliff Richard with The Young Ones - Rick, Vivienne, Neill and Mike

  1. Dale says More Young Ones to remind me of Sunday nights waiting for 120 Minutes to come on. Ah, good times. Cheers Helen!

  2. Terry Staunton says Clifftastic stuff, your majesty. My favourite story about Mr Richard concerned one of his '70s singles, a country-ish ballad called Honky Tonk Angels. It had been in the shops a couple of weeks when a journalist informed the somewhat naive Cliff that "honky tonk angels" was another name for bar-hopping whores, and therefore not creatures of salvation sent from on high. He promptly had the record withdrawn from sale. But his greatest moment has to be that song he did about the squirrel. You know the one... "Squirrel goin' on a summer holiday..." Ha!
