WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Danny Elfman - a cracking composer

Posted over 2 years ago
Danny Elfman must be my favourite composer. I am a huge fan of Tim Burton, who favours the compositions of Danny Elfman. And, who isn't a fan of The Simpsons! Danny Elfman has composed so many soundtracks for popular films. His work is almost ubiquitous - I mean - the Simpsons is on almost 24 hours a day. I mention only a few of his impressive oeuvres below.I think that his compositions are so fabulously dramatic. One can't help but love them. Batman: Beetlejuice:The Simpsons:Jeez, I have a compilation of his works and I played it so often I'm sure my new neighbours must have thought I was a nut.

  1. Mike the Knife says I'm with you on this guy, Q. Although we're not big buddies, I have had the pleasure of being acquainted with him since the early '80s, and he's a driven character, but massively talented and a straight shooter. (He can be a bit of a magpie as a composer, too. Still, he always brings something of himself to the projects he undertakes.)

  2. vannatta says Am with you too, have followed his career closely since 1985, and have enjoyed all of his output since then - and still listen to Oingo Boingo to this day. I think that his partner in crime Steve Bartek, his orchestrator, is unsung as well - another great talent. If you enjoy Mr. Elfman, you would probably enjoy his biggest influence, Bernard Herrmann as well.

  3. Jonh Ingham says And let's not forget the Nino Rota - well I was going to say 'steals' but let's call them 'influences'. Danny's a talented guy and I always liked the fact that in punk days he was unafraid to be outside the fold with Oingo Boingo. His music always lifts any film. Or the intro to a TV show.
