Bonnie Raitt

Posted almost 5 years ago

I am not ashamed to admit that I can tune in to the sappy adult contemporary radio stations for a dose of nostalgia and enjoy it. It's not even an ironic nostalgia where I think back to the horrible music my mother subjected me to in the early and mid nineties and roll my eyes. I genuinely enjoy listening to Wilson Philips and that Boys to Men featuring Mariah Carey tune every once in awhile on those completely predictable stations.

Amidst all the cookie cutter soft rock outfits of the time, there were some really great artists. Bonnie Raitt is amazing in my opinion. Of course her career spans much farther back than the songs I'm familiar with, but even her big 90s hits were great. I want to listen to some more of her older releases. I think if I had to make an on the spot decision of what song to sing at a karaoke bar, I would have to choose Ms. Raitt's "Something to Talk About". I looove that song.

Oh, and I think "I Can't Make You Love Me" is in my top 5 saddest love gone wrong songs list. I don't know if I should be a bit embarrased by this admission of Bonnie Raitt love, but I can't help it.

  2. samuraijohnny says Nothing to be ashamed about! I'm also too young to have heard her earlier stuff, but I too also like the music she made in the 90's. Bonnie also has a well earned reputation among guitarists as being one of the best (and most underrated) slide guitarists out there. At her heart, she's a blues musician and I think that really give her music more depth than what she lets on.

  5. drewfonts says "I Can't Make You Love Me" is one of the best finest ballads ever written, and it still gets me every time I hear it. Bonnie's emotive voice coupled with the always tasteful piano of Mr. Bruce Hornsby...just a fabulous tune. There's no shame in loving it :)
