My Brightest Diamond

Artist:
Shara Worden is so cute it's a bit nauseating.

Thankfully, her voice and musical stylings bring much more to the table than just "cute". On her first release "Bring Me the Workhorse" under the name My Brightest Diamond, she brings us an ethereal mix of rock with undertones of her past experience in opera. That last bit about opera might make you cringe, but somehow it adds an infectious dash of cherubic charm to her brand of rock. Miss Worden has been a member of Sufjan Stevens' touring group but has taken a step out of Stevens' shadow with this release. A remix of the album will be the next project from My Brightest Diamond and next summer she will put out "A Thousand Shark's Teeth", a string album with much less structure and rock. Stand out tracks so far are: "Workhorse", "Golden Star" and "Magic Rabbit". "We Were Sparkling" is also a great song but reminds me a bit of "Talk Show Host" by Radiohead. "Gone Away" has got a Morcheeba feel to it. If you're into Regina Spektor, Bjork, Joanna Newsom, Tori Amos or any of those creatively sporadic female singers you must give My Brightest Diamond a listen or two or twelve.
