Mesmerized

If you were never really into any of the early shoegaze bands of the 90's now might be a pretty good time to delve into them. Cherry Red just reissued Chapterhouse's classic second release Blood Music which was given a new mix and it sounds great. Not only that but they threw in the Mesmerise EP and the We are the Beautiful single. If you find that to your liking Chapterhouse's first one (Wh...

Jim Jones Tribute

I have not been on Mog lately so I'm not sure if anyone had posted anything on the Cleveland underground rock musician Jim Jones who passed away in February. Jim played in a number of legendary Cleveland bands including Pere Ubu, Mirrors, Styrenes, Home and Garden and my favorite the Easter Monkeys. I did a tribute show on Jim a weeks back which features these bands as well as a few more. You ...

The "B" Team

My friends and I were playing a game by naming long forgotten bands that were given the "grunge" moniker or that released records in the early 90's. Most of the bands we named were forgotten for a reason until one of us mentioned Love Battery. I always felt that this band got the short end of the stick and should have been a lot bigger. They had a real psychedelic sound that not a lot of peo...

Five more...

I thought I would list five more albums that just missed my top 10 list. In fact, it really killed me to leave a lot of these records out. I provided links so you can hear a track from each record. There were a ton of great reissues that came out this year that I left out but I think I'll list them in a separate post.Gui Boratto - Chromophobia - Kompakthttp://wfmu.org/listen.ram?show=22689&a...

"My top 10 list for 2007":http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/12/lou-zieglers-th.html just got posted on "WFMU's Beware of the Blog":http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/. I know some people are way over the "best of" lists but to be honest with you I really look forward to them. I love to compare my list with others to see what record I think other people slept on or to see what I missed out on this...

Thanks to WFMU's "Scott Williams":http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/SW and "Mike Lupica":http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/mike_lupicas_posts/index.html I am completely addicted to this video and this band. Scott just wrote "a really great post":http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/12/strange-maine-b.html that gives a lot of background on this super cool band from Maine. There are a couple of great fre...

Major Stars...

...are probably my favorite rock band of the past few years. I'm a sucker for the guitar based freak-out and if that is your thing then this is your band. I've been playing Mirror/Messenger non-stop since I picked it up last week. To top it all off they are playing here in C-town this week. Nice one! Here is a taste of what they sound like live.

I'm always interested in what these guys are up to and I am really intrigued due to the fact that they have a revamped line-up. If you want a taste of what the new album is going to sound like you can check out a live performance that they did a few weeks back on Mike Lupica's show at WFMU.http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/22062

Unearthed Treasure (to my ears) #2

I don't know too much about this new wavish band except that they were from Chicago and Al Jourgensen was in the band after they released this 7" in 1979. Both the A and B sides are pretty fun. I'll have a link up for the A side in a few days.
