Hogs... IN SPACE!!!

Posted over 5 years ago
Spacehog. I pretty much enjoyed them. They're one of those peripheral bands that everyone knows but isn't anyone's favorite band (as far as I know) but everyone can hum along to "In the Meantime". So I was wondering what other people thought of them. Does anyone else even own all their albums like I do?

  2. Puffmagic says I think you should at least own Resident Alien or The Hogyessy. It's so odd to think that you were just a sprout when most of my favorite music came out. It makes me feel so old. Ah well.

  3. elor says All i know about them is that the singer is Liv Tyler's baby daddy. And hey, that works for me..

  4. Spencer Owen says I like the bassline to the verses of "In the Meantime." That is the best part.

  9. Dean Browell says Not sure how I missed this post by you, but glad I caught up with it. YES. I own everything by Spacehog and jumped on their wagon very early on. I have always liked their stuff, even when it was corny. Two interesting tidbits: 1) Have you heard Evan Dando's "Waking Up" from his solo Baby I'm Bored LP? You should give it a listen-- it's done with Royston and they essentially re-work "I Want to Live" on acoustic with new lyrics. 2) I got to hang out with Spacehog (minus Royston) when they performed at an awful radio festival here in the mountains of Virginia. They came on after a full day of country and bluegrass and as soon as they started the crowd (clearly nonplussed) started bolting. About 40 stuck around including a very excited bunch of my friends and I. I nabbed the setlist and was informed by a roadie that they'd be out to sign autographs in a minute. While waiting with only 12 people I realized the setlist was on hotel stationary: the Holiday Inn Airport here in Roanoke. I got them to sign it and they snickered that they "gave the game away" by using the stationary. Walking back to the car we realized that Johnny had written "By the way we're in 172" on the setlist. My wife and a close friend ate some grub nearby and then proceeded to the hotel where we played pool and drank with the band until 4am. Some of the coolest guys. Royston was within a few months of his wedding to Liv, so Anthony was very chatty about the wedding. -Dean

That's: "Pigs In Space!" (The Muppet Show, of course.) Since I've never heard of Space Hog, wouldn't an MP3 or YouTube video be appropriate?

i was lucky to see these guys on their first gigs and did some scouting work for their label, giving a thumbs up.  "Meantime" was one of those songs that i LOVED as an example of accessible pop that was still creative.  i missed the latest shows in both LA and NY, but i'm looking forward to what they come up with now.  Johnny was also involved in a couple of other cool NY projects but i'm rooting for this one.  glad you brought this up!

good scouting robin! thank you for your kindness! that tune is certainly a glam rocking pop masterpiece, though that video is one of the coldest pieces of art i've ever set my eyes on! doesn't do the magnanimous theme and sound of the song justice at all in my opinion

johnny was absolutely a machine the other night, so impressive, i've seen them a boatload of times, and this was surprisingly the tightest in a lot of ways

and i'm such a sucker for their cover of in the lap of the gods by queen, who in the hell would ever have the balls to attempt that

there were also a few new numbers that sounded very strong, can't wait to hear a new record, i hear they're working on one
