Puffy's Mini Track Reviews: "Tarantula" by Smashing Pumpkins

Posted over 2 years ago
Wasn't it originally supposed to be "The" Smashing Pumpkins? As in, "I say, gov'na, those are some smashing pumpkins!"? Well whatever. I was worried that I wouldn't like this track but I think it's actually pretty sweet. It's definitely more aggressive than anything since "Mellon Collie" and it's nice to hear Corgan getting angsty again. I panned his solo album based on an ill impression of the single and Zwan was an almost total disappointment despite the undeniable potential. So, even if it's just Chamberlain and Corgan it's still the Punkins, I mean they were really the only stand-out talent anyway. I'm actually excited!Puffy says this track is: Sweet"Hear the Track on Spinner":http://www.spinner.com/2007/05/18/new-music-tarantula-by-smashing-pumpkins/

  1. gympumpkin says At first I just heard a 30-second clip of it, and the first time I heard that I wasn't so sure about it. But then on Friday I heard the song a couple of times on the radio on Friday, and it's really starting to grow on me. I'm really interested in hearing more now.

  4. Puffmagic says I think skepticism is the default position for any band reunion but I am glad that this one doesn't disappoint me.

  6. Marigold says This song surprised the hell out of me. I was so expecting it to be crap. I was actually surprised that I like it ok. Now, will I go out and buy the cd when it comes out..I doubt it. GISH is still top notch in my book though. I love that cd. >>>>So, even if it’s just Chamberlain and Corgan it’s still the Punkins, I mean they were really the only stand-out talent anyway. I’m actually excited!<<< I will take a slight issue with this statement. I will say that James Iha's solo disc "Let it Come Down" is very good and an above average cd. Thus making him not absent of talent. (IMO of coarse) However, I do aggree with your basic premise that Corgan and Chamberlin can be the SP without Darcy and James.

  7. Puffmagic says Agreed, I know Iha has talent, and when I first got into SP I thought he was the one doing all the solos on Siamese Dream. When I found out it was Corgan I was like, "Oh, well what the hell does he do then?"
