Fridaylicious! (Feat. Harvey Danger's "new" album!)

Typically when a band breaks up I'm under the strict opinion that, even if they were great and it's sad to see them go, they should stay broken up. If you're able to get closure after they split then it's even harder to welcome them back if they do get back together. Band reunions just tend to come off as awkward or forced half the time and any post-split recording often vanish as fast as the band's credibility. There have been bands that have split and gotten back together that actually manage to kind of sweep the whole hiatus under the proverbial rug; one of these bands is Harvey Danger. After their last show in Portland in April of 2001 I was left holding their two albums lamenting the loss of one of the more interesting bands to come out of the late 90's pile of crap that was alternative radio (Sister Hazel? Nine Days? Matchbox 20?) and I began to like them even more after they'd gone. I saw Long Winters with Nada Surf in around 2003 and was glad to see Sean Nelson was still getting work and when I heard a year or so later that Harvey Danger was getting back together I was hopeful that they wouldn't pull a Guns N Roses and just ruin everyone's good time. However, after that I kinda forgot they were back together cause I really didn't hear much music news between august of '04 and august of '05 as I was parked in a tiny ranching town on the edge of cultural oblivion. So as I was gathering up music I may have missed a few weeks ago I came across "Little by Little..." and thought" Oh yeah, Harvey Danger's back!" and "My butt itches" but that had nothing to do with the band really. So last night I gave it a proper listen and, to my great surprise, it's good! In fact, it's congruently good sitting next to their other two albums, not just "good for a reunion album" good.
I probably had more to say about this but I'll be honest, it's Friday, I saw a show last night, Jenny got me to stay up and see Ben Folds on Conan last night (he was dressed as a pirate?) so I'm on about 4 hours of sleep making my total for the week 24 out of a possible 40 hours. I'm tired, I have 6 more hours to go and really nothing to fill them with that won't get me in trouble. So, to sum up: Harvey Danger is good. The song "Little Round Mirrors" is fantastic, maybe their best song ever, ever.
