One of the great parts about playing in a band is meeting all sorts of folk and seeing countless bands you wouldn't normally see otherwise. I've decided to document some of those gems I've had the pleasure of witnessing. For a brief moment between 2003 and 2004, there was a four-piece called NiteTime. I first encountered them at a gig one of my old bands, Random Justice, was playing. I believe it was at the Reggae Lounge in Pasadena. It's difficult to place some of these shows into some semblance of an order at times. I should have written a journal. At the very least, I can remember that there was, indeed, no Reggae played at this show.It wasn't difficult for them to catch my attention. Their songs were well structured and rather varied. I made it a point to sign their mailing list.I recall seeing them a second time at The Echo. They had CDs available and I snagged one. I remember toward the end of their set, Casey was yelling about "down with Bush" and "no more Bush" franticly and repeatedly during their last song. The rest of the band looked puzzled.Indeed, I believe everyone in the audience looked a bit puzzled. Then he pulled out the hair clippers. His eyes were wide, almost maddened, filled with nervousness. He continued chanting. By this point the whole venue was chanting. That's when he pulled down his pants and shaved off his pubes. There was laughter and gasps and "OHMYGODS" from the audience and band alike. He even went so far as to take his shavings and throw them at the remaining band members who were trying to finish up the song. Now
that is something one doesn't forget.- - -Their EP remains one of my favorites to this day. The main guitar riff in "Fake Arms" continues to amaze me, as does the rest of the EP. It's chilling and haunting and rocking and soft and aggressive all at once. It's a shame they parted ways. The rest of the EP follows in the comments.
