Not That There Is Anything Wrong With It.

  1. 1234chainsaw says I'm actually astonished to discover that I only have ABBA, Dead Or Alive, and Macha & Bedhead's cover of "Believe" (which is more for the introvert depressives among us) in my collection. I have a fair bit of Nina Simone, though.

  2. Misstee says And most of those artists wouldn't have it any other way!

  3. democlez says I was actually expecting to have more songs on the list in my library than I actually do. I think I have two: Constant Craving and Young Hearts.

  4. PeppermintPattie says 43. KD Lang “Constant Craving” 41. Chaka Kham “I’m Every Woman” 8. Olivia Netwon-John "Xanadu" 1. ABBA "Dancing Queen" And, right now I'm singing lyrics to Gloria Gaynor's song ""I Will Survive" in my head. BTW Chaka Khan was da'shiznit back in the day! If I'm not mistaken she didn't live too far away from me when I lived in Heidelberg, Germany. Never did run into her...

  5. Pop Savant says I would be remiss if I didn't include what I have. Donna Summer - I feel love...well actually I have the gayer (and sexier) version by Jimmy Sommerville and Marc Almond. . Tim Curry “Sweet Transvestite” . Queen “I Want To Break Free” . Bronski Beat “Smalltown Boy” . Frankie Goes To Hollywood “Relax” .

  7. Cody B says Nice list, a man's list..I have a bout 20 of them. Where's the Bette, where's the Patti LaBelle. And what about, Is It All Over My Face from the Loose Joints ◄Is it all over my face or Free Man from South Shore Commission.

  8. Pop Savant says Anna - I clearly surprised. But I don't see you being a fan of ABBA. Or any other Eurovision contestant....Oh and I get to see the Soho Dolls next Thursday night during SXSW- kind of in the genre of the list.

  9. Lester Jonze says HA! I have none of these.

  10. darmuzz says I can't say I own many of these, but I can sing a couple of lines from at least 30 of them! My suggestions: Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf The Go Go's - Our Lips Are Sealed No wait, I think I got those mixed up with my Cheesy 80s playlist. How about: The Killers - Somebody Told Me Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved Someday maybe the Scissor Sisters and Mika will make the list!

  11. dermahrk says My*GOD*, where is ??Tainted Love??. I fully expected to see it in the number one slot (so to speak, slots generally not ??de rigueur?? in this crowd). Oh, and I own Cyndi, and other artists' versions of ??Xanadu?? (ELO) and ??9 to 5?? (Alison Krauss). Not sure how that would affect their gay-ness. While some tracks are gay-oriented, others just seem to be "gay" in the way that some young people use the word, as a general pejorative.

  12. dermahrk says And, where is Al Stewart on this list? He's still lisping ??Year Of The Cat?? after all these years.

  13. democlez says dermahrk: Why would you consider Tainted Love a gay song? I think the list is less about gay themes or artists, but more about their association with the gay community. I wouldn't say it was meant to be insulting in any way.

  14. HelenMarie says I'm all over Kylie Minogue! (in musical terms of course)

  15. Hammerogod says According to the list I am Gayer than Richard Simmons. And I refuse to let that stop me from listening to the music. ABBA and the BeeGees almost single-handedly made the dance floor an interesting place. The dance floors in many places were used to store dust and unused chairs before the Disco Era. ABBA and their "Gay" music made them THE place to be. And that's good enough. I will be an 'Honorary" Gay if it means that I can still enjoy music I have been enjoying for decades.

  16. dermahrk says democlez (you *have* to tell me where that screen name came from) - maybe I am misinterpreting the criteria. If it is that a song needs to have gay content in the lyrics, you may be right and ??Tainted Love?? and Al Stewart may not belong on the list. What I am referring to is the way the vocals *sound* - the qualities of the voice. The singer of ??Tainted Love?? "came out" years ago - it's in the music mag interviews, Al Stewart (if indeed he *is* gay) has not. And, while indeed there "isn't anything wrong with that", personally I find it hard to enjoy such vocalizations. ??Tainted Love?? in particular.

  17. Cody B says I definitely don't think this list started as a tribute to the gay community.. I think ABBA and The Bee Gees helped popularize Disco, which was an underground, Gay,outsider music that had tons of innovation and musicality, before ABBA and The BG's..see the soaring strings and great male vocalists of Philly (Teddy Pendergrass,Gerald LeVert), Salsoul Records, and their live band backing classic divas like Loleeta Holloway, and though I don't like it as much, the influence and innovation of electro/italo disco folk like Georgio Moroeder, is heavily on evidence in todays music. Thank you for visiting the Disco Chamber of Commerce...I'm the Rock Relations Manager, let me show you to the VIP..

  18. dermahrk says Yeah, we may be flirting with homophobia to even discuss this. But, of course, being PC is not one of my strong points.....

  19. Cody B says Well the list was posted by a gay focused web site, so I'm wrong..I believe we can speak freely here.

  20. Anonymous says Woah, I think I am secretly gay as I have 13 of 50 tunes up there. But then again, I was young and lost and I saved anything. Including too many heavy metal stuff. True story.
