What better way to start my MOG Blog than by expounding on one of the best songs of this year? I just ran across the video for Richard Ashcroft's "Music Is Power" and I was reminded of the incredible goodness of this song. Indeed, of his latest album. I'm a huge Verve fan, but not so much the solo work Richard had done after '97. But this album took me by surprise, in a very good way. Perhaps the optimism in this song caught me off guard. Music is, indeed, the mantra that unwinds in my head. And for me, music does contain those answers to things unsaid. Okay, I'm stopping with the sappiness! On to the videoAnd the video for the song, while nothing incredibly new or outstanding, seems designed to let the music speak for itself. The video almost, almost turns into "Spinal Tap"... but Richard does manage to find his way out of the kitchen and make it to the stage. I hope he turned it up to 11!
