Tito Alcedo... Agüita salá

Posted over 5 years ago
This guitar player is one of my totems.... I might have seen him live a dozen times with Javier Ruibal, and a couple of times with Nono García... and his playing is always overwhelming. Improvisations full of joy, strenght and life, he really knows what to give to the audience. Not only he's effective doing arranges and backgrounds... he's impressive when improvising: he looks like he is absoutely enjoying every note. And that is easy to feel when you listen to him. Every colour he depicts with the guitar goes with a quiet grin or a smile on his face, and a tender scare on the audience's soul.I learned that John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell where touring with Paco de Lucía, and the latter didn't manage somehow to play in a few concerts of the tour. Tito did the job. I have a videotape of Tito and Coryell playing duo at Cordoba International Guitar Festival sometime in the early nineties (or even before), in Palacio the Viana, a beautiful yet simple stage... two friends having fun and doing real music. Worth watching again... And well... for those who do not live in Spain to see him playing (he's always touring with Javier Ruibal, all year round!), there's "Agüita Salá". This record was published in Germany and France, apparently, and has fallen into oblivion... ¡Sin pena ni gloria! Destiny plays his tricks, but Tito brights within himself and out of his strings. I got it this morning mailed directly from Intuition (so cheap and fast!) and I probably have listened to it a dozen times now. Featuring: Alfonso Gamaza, Antonio Serrano, Eva Dúran, el Churri, Javier Ruibal (on percussions :) Absolutely fantastic! ¡Viva Barbate!
