I first heard Washington Phillips some 20 years ago now, and this song was among the first things I heard that made me fall in love with American roots music. Years later when I was recording Tearing Sky with JP Plunier we went for a drive and he put it on, he's the only other person I ever came across who knew of this music.It's hard to put words to something as pure and touching as this, the plucked strings of the dulcimer, his high falsetto voice and the innocent and melancholy lyrics.
