Track:After All This Time - (with Keb' Mo')
Last night, my sister and I saw Melissa Manchester perform at Sculler's Jazz Club in Boston, MA.
I'd seen Melissa there a couple of years ago. At that time, I'd taken my mom and, apparently, had gone to the second or late show, since we were able to meet with Melissa after the show as she met with guests leaving the show.Though we didn't get to meet with Melissa last night, we were wonder struck at her performance. The first Melissa Manchester concert I went to was at Boston's Symphony Hall. I was 15 years old and went with my parents and a buddy of mine. She was promoting her third album, "Melissa," and riding the success of her first hit single, "Midnight Blue." I was hooked.Melissa is the first major musical influence of mine. At the time, circa 1970s, Melissa was one of many up and coming singer/songwriters. Though she successfully segued into a pop career, winning a Grammy Award for "You Should Hear How She Talks About You," she, by far, seems most authentic outside the walls of categorization where she can explore any and all genres. Still, I think her heart and soul is best exposed and show-cased when she lets a ballad rip from any genre!Well, since I wasn't able to meet with her, I ended up leaving my CD with the Sound Engineer. He assured me he'd get it to her. We'll see what happens! Regardless, the adventure continues . . .
